Act 5 motivation (Many spoilers)
Pretty much everything below here will be some level of spoiler...

I have not actually finished the game despite it being a day one purchase. I've been dabbling in builds and playing through the first couple acts. This month I decided to play through it fully and circle back after the DLC are released.

As every true son of the Imperium should, I'm playing a dogmatic, human only run. The end of Act 4/start of Act 5, was kind of like running into a roleplaying brick wall however. What is my motivation?

Regardless of how good or bad the earlier acts were - there was a motivation that made sense; fight the Cult of the Final Dawn, secure your power base, escape Commorragh, save a besieged world.

And then comes Chapter 5...

Why do I - a loyal son of the Empire - decide to second guess an Lord Inquisitor, attack Imperial ships, and launch what is stated as a declaration of war by jumping through a dangerous gate over an alleged "super weapon" that I honestly don't care if Calcazar has or not. As mentioned, I haven't finished the game, although because it's been out for so long I'm aware of the generalizations of Act 5, and while it may make sense in the end - why did I do all that?

If you've been loyally dogmatic the whole game, couldn't there be an option of Calcazar asking you to continue to assist him or something on the other side of the gate? As it stands it just really feels like railroading. Why am I chasing the Lord Inquisitor? I don't care if the Inquisition has a "super weapon" - that's their job.

Heh, ironically I just passed the Inquisition blockade in a pure Dogmatic playthrough ~30 mins ago. After the return from Euphrates II, Xalcazar had left me a message that he is very happy with me and I have earned his trust. So when I approached the blockade ships, they said: "Sanction for approaching granted. Safe travels. The Emperor protects."

Hmm...

I wonder what the trigger for that would have been? Maybe a specific action or dogmatic level? Honestly, I would have felt a lot better about Act 5 if I had your experience. I never opposed him once during the game. I am glad to know it's possible at least.

It is hard to recall my choices. Basically what was not dogmatic in my choices was - I kept Idira and recruited Jae, pretty much everywhere else I took a dogmatic option. Yrliet was recruited, used to kill both the aeldari and the governor, then given to Heinrix after I was done with her quest. Conversation with Xalcazar (I had lvl 3 dogmatic by that point) - I replied that I made sure Kiava Gamma was pure, and about xenos suspicions took the lore imperium check. After he gave me the ring, I went on my knees and asked to be part of his retinue (needed dogmatic rank 2 or 3 iirc). Act 3 I broke the device allowing demons to enter the city. Act 4 - backed Chorda, genocided the aeldari in Quetza Temer.
