Why you're (probably) playing the game wrong
I'm new to the cRPG genre. I played a few ttRPGs back before video games existed, but never got into them on PC. So I watched a bunch of videos before buying the game just to see if I'd enjoy it. One common complaint across all the videos was that the writing didn't always work with the characters. Most often, they were complaining that Argenta just wouldn't tolerate some behavior and that the game should reflect that. They're not wrong. But the bigger point is that they are ignoring they're own responsibility to the story. They're focused on the "G" in "RPG" while forgetting the "RP" part. And the "RP" is where this game absolutely shines, in my opinion.

In a nutshell, if you intend to do something Argenta wouldn't like, then she shouldn't be in your party. She doesn't have to be there, you can make a mercenary to do her job. I mean, if you were a dirty cop on your way to make a drug deal, you wouldn't take the head of Internal Affairs along to help out, would you? It's up to you to figure out what your role is and to play your game accordingly. Which may mean making hard choices.

For example, my character doesn't like psykers and doesn't include them in the party. Would my game be easier with Idira and Cassia blasting entire rooms of enemies in a single turn? Yup. But they both stay on the ship because my character doesn't want them around. He would just as soon kill them, but you can't have a ship without a navigator and warp channeler.

Similarly:
Instead of recruiting Jae, I killed her. Not only was she dealing in heretical xeno items, but she also manipulated me into helping her. Such an affront could not be tolerated. I looted her corpse right there in the warehouse after helping her recover her cargo. Am I missing out on something later? Yup. But that's the role I've chosen to play. Unfortunately, the game doesn't seem to account for this possibility even though it's a dialog option. You would think the liege would acknowledge her death, but he didn't.

In some ways, I think the game paints you into a corner. Mainly, if you're dead serious about role-playing (which you should be in a Role-Playing game) then you are limited in choices for your main character. The heir to a rogue trader dynasty isn't going to be a low-life crimelord from some remote Death World. You're almost guaranteed to be a noble. Probably from an imperial or hive world. On the other hand, being serious about RP opens up interesting options. I went into the character creator and built mercenaries specifically for the ship posts. Well, I respec'd Abelard to be the Master Cannoneer and Idira to be the Warp Channeler. A wealthy noble would already have a retinue, he wouldn't need to recruit randos. Go into the character creator and build what you need. Give yourself your own right-hand man instead of Abelard. A couple soldier/warrior bodyguards, a spiritual advisor, a psyker for warp protection, there are options beyond what the game gives you.

Of course, you lose all the dialog options and side quests of the built-in companions when you use mercenaries. But, for me at least, this actually expands the game. Because now all the lore is in my head. I have a warrior priest with maxed medicae who serves as the team medic. I have a soldier I built mainly to serve as the "Master of Etherics" on the ship. The warrior I built to be "Master of Maneuvers" works well on the "away team". And then there's the operative I built specifically to be a sniper. I did keep Argenta because she fit with the role I'm playing. Only one of the six built-in companions I currently have access to made it on my team. This really makes it a role-playing game rather than a choose-your-own-adventure.

Bottom line:
In a "role-playing" game, you have to remember that YOU are also expected to abide the rules of the role you have chosen. The game can't do it all for you.

Never have I read so much with so little to say.

And there is also no correlation to your title and the text. The only wrong part is you not doing any RP and expect RP in gamepaly. Many who play cRPG knows the limitation of a cRPG with no DM present.

Not doing any RP is exactly what I was talking about. Using the built-in companions can't work with RP because they conflict with each other and even with the main plot of the game.

And apparently there are plenty of people who don't know the limitations of these games. Otherwise there wouldn't be 1,856 videos complaining about the limitations of the game. There also wouldn't be people complaining about Argenta's lack of response if there weren't people using her when she didn't fit the role they needed. Which means there are people who don't know how RPGs work.

Not exactly what one would say be playing wrong, ,amy characters can be built with different roles.

But if one wants to play as psyker hater you can do that by killing of majority of character by the name of god-emperor and insult the inquisitor at any given moment.

One of the things I love of this game is that, like tyranny, you're supposed to be a bad guy in today's standards, too few RPGs let you do that :D

It's because of the setting, 40k is all heretical or not., no in betweens.
I don't understand the post tbh. You are basically saying that you should RP in an RPG? Is that it?

This man could be a politician or professional essay writer. Brother Wrote an entire speech based on a single sentence.

Also- objectively wrong. You can go full chaos and keep argenta around A LOT longer than she should stay. There's no reason her leaving is locked behind a specific trigger, when you gallivanting around with heresy should have her turning hostile by the end of act 2.
