Is this game as good as the Pathfinder series?
I never gravitated to the warhammer universe, but I very much like the two pathfinder games, what are the odds I will like this?

I like this one better. (still like Pathfinder tho). Needs combat balancing, some abilities are overpowered, some useless, but still fun to play.

It's better in every possible way. Especially characters, they all something.

Story and characters - comparable or better.

Gameplay is another story though. It's THE most unbalanced game I've ever played. I can't think of a game that comes close to how insanely unbalanced this game is. The hardest possible settings are easier than Pathfinder's Normal. You can literally (and I mean LITERALLY) be invincible, unhittable AND oneshotting everything on MAX settings in every fight, including the last boss. And that's with an "unoptimised" party.

Oh and it's incredibly buggy and combat tooltips lie to you all the time. If the preview says you'll do 50 damage you may do 20 damage or 2000 (I am not exaggerating) and the only way to know is to do all the calculations yourself or just shoot and see what happens.

The characters are so much worse, but that's just Owlcat being 100% faithful to the source material; everyone in Warhammer is a casually xenophobic d****** who is huffing their own ideology so hard that they can't see raw facts five feet in front of their face and will literally burn an entire planet of their own members down if it means potentially slightly inconveniencing a single member of a different species. You will get real tired real quick of hearing how perfect/utterly stupid the God-Emperor is and having everyone treat each other like trash, even when they hold the same beliefs.

This game is much easier than their Pathfinder titles; you get a free full party heal after every combat, lasting traumas from being downed in combat (or taking 2 points of damage from a trap) are removed with a simple visit to the hub ship, and there is no cap to your dodge so you can make your tank literally untoucheable while keeping everyone permanently aggroed on them.

Like Pathfinder, it's still full of bugs, and they have not patched out critical quest bugs yet.

I find it the way people act to be part of the "what-if" appeal of the entire thing, but yeah, the adjustment to the world of 40k is a pretty stark one especially if you're unfamiliar with the setting.

Be prepared to go in with an open mind (contrary to the imperial cult's teachings)

RT characters are way more interesting than PF characters, specifically because they are so prejudiced and xenophobic. You typically never see a cast of characters who would all be deemed absolutely terrible IRL and yet they can't be considered evil in the setting. It's a breath of fresh air and they are mostly written very well.

Although the Imperials can be a little extreme about their opinions, if you understand the context of the universe, you see it as the most logical and sensible option. Within Warhammer 40k, humanity already experienced its space tree-hugger phase and they paid extremely dearly for it. And then came the chaos, the archtraitor, and the Emperor's noble sacrifice...

In a universe in which everything wants to kill you (if you're lucky) the most logical and sensible thing is to exterminate every possibility of threat by any means necessary. After all, it is better to save a soul and extinguish its life than to spare a life and condemn its soul.

Apart from both coming from Owlcat I see no more common ground between RT and WotR than with other RPGs. Totally different worlds and rule systems. I know both scenarios from tabletop RPGs and boardgames, and so far I think Pathfinder WotR is much better. I'm really missing the flow in RT and have a much harder time getting into it, saying it is "better in every possible way" makes me lmao. I have a bad feeling about it, but I'm not far enough into the game yet to make a final call.

Yea they deff need to tweak a few things ability wise like they need to like group up stuff better or something having to read entire page everytime i'm building a character is kind of rough.

I'll say im a big 40k fan so some bias here. I love wotr though one of my fav crpgs of all time. But i think i prefer RT. The companions are much more interesting and the 40k setting really makes them more interesting, as the setting alone just creates characters you dont normally see in a typical fantasy rpg.

The gameplay is a lot more fun in RT in my opinion, but the builds are not as interesting. If ur into min maxing i think pathfinder still has that one. Still PF games actual combat is pretty flat in my opinion, 90% of fights are decided pre buffing and then letting auto play play fights out quickly for you most of the time.
RT has some pretty fun combat honestly, and yes things can get out of control by around act 2-3 with how powerful you can get, its totally broken but still actually very fun.

Overall RT just reeks with atmosphere, great characters, a top setting that does away with lots of tropes that fantasy style rpgs kinda always fall into with good vs bad ext.
Once RT gets its big balance patch and its dlcs, i think this game will be much better in pretty much every area over the pathfinder games.

wotr is still more goated, nothing beats the feeling of enemy boss panicking the moment the boss music is your boss music lol
