Seriously , I think the descriptions says you can only have one active any time. It's probably a glitch. The game as annoying it can be tend to unequipped them when I go back to the void ship
So yes that isn't wanted, when it will be corrected and what priority it has, is a different question.
I installed toybox and tried removing one or both so as to reset them and couldn't find the proper definition for it. Moreover, while a servo skull entry is available for all entities, it can't be killed or altered in any way. I can only assume that either whatever is causing the duplication of pets is deeper or the definition(s) that control pets are just named something really odd.
