Why a Space Wolf?
I'm not saying that I dislike Space Wolves. But why did the devs pick a space wolf over say, a White Scar? Or a Dark Angel? Or maybe even something like a loyalist Alpha Legionnaire?
What was the design decision to have a Space Wolf over all the other legions to choose from.

It's an intelligent pick when you have to write a story where companions could be corrupted by your convictions.
The violent Wulfen take-over is an every day risk for a SWolf SM , even more so for a chapter which interprets and does not follow 100% the Codex Astartes.

Dark angels only reason for joining something like a rouge trader would be to aid them in tracking down a fallen really which they can not tell you about so would be a rather mute npc

Well unless they're with the Lion as a redeemer of fallen they'd probably kill you if you even saw a member of the fallen... cause what fallen?

Well not kill you, have to turn you inside out for information first. They make the stuff the dark elder do seem pleasant

Interrogator-Chaplains are no joke

Space wolves are one of the least disciplined chapters, they basically ignore the codex astartes. They also don't care about having exactly 1000 marines, this alone makes the probability of having a space wolf kidnapped or forgotten this much higher.

Honestly, out of all the initial space marine legions (chapters as of present) a space wolf joining a rogue trader is the least unlikely.

What other chapters would have a lone member (a) wandering around around on their own anyway, (b) hitch a ride with a Rogue Trader, and (c) tolerate the amount of shenanigans the RT gets up to?
Salamanders, most likely. They _actually_ care for the average Joes out there and never forget that they were born as such. So why not go on a road trip with a Rogue Trader for a change when you were looking for your Bros anyway?

I am saying space wolf annoy the heck out of me though.

wolf this wolf that the wolf wolf company etc. eh
Maybe try puting aside 4chan memes and read the actual lore? I know it is hard to read long sentences, but just try it.

Read them all, their naming of things is just insufferable for me. I know it's hard for you to accept that people might have different opinion than you since it's your first time but do give it a shot.

I like Russ tho.

While I would have preferred a different chapter as well, the Lord Inquisitor using the Space Wolves wasn't the worst choice given what he was up to. Trying to enlist the aid of most other chapters would be far riskier.

However, it still wasn't the *best* choice either. Firstly, the Wolves have rarely seen eye-to-eye with the Inquisition, and have even been known to directly oppose them on more than one occasion. This tense relationship means anything asked of them would likely be subject to additional scrutiny.

Secondly, there are simply better choices out there. There are several radical successor chapters that are begrudgingly tolerated because they do more good than harm (until they eventually cross a line too far and get indicted) that would have been perfect for the mechanations of X.C.

It doesn't matter whom they picked, because there will always be someone who does not agree with it. In the end you have to pick a chair and sit on it. Or you can place yourself between the chairs :)
There are simple factors:
1. XC could not use Deathwatch because he feared that they will find out about his pet project. A reasonable precaution, given that Ulfars pack also did exactly that, and XC was forced to set them up and eventualy elimite them. But a Deathwatch Killteam dissapearing after the inquisitor had requisitioned them would be super suspicious.
2. Events of Warzone Fenris campaign led to the Inquisition learning about Wulfen. Even though them were judged pure by the Grey Knights, they are still a secret to wider Imperium. XC finding a lost Wulfen and handing him down to the chapter to earn a favor is a good plot device.
3. Fenris is relativelly close. I mean Medusa is closer, but just imagine XC asking help from Iron Hands lol. Baal was besieged by Tyranids at that time. So SW are the only first founding chapter choice available.
4. No one cares about successor chapters. They are just seen lower than first founding by almost everyone.

To be fair, Space Wolves almost never show up in videogames.

I would have preffered on of the Emperor's Spears, which have a distinctive Celtic bent, and Druid Chaplains, but we gt what we get.

they have their very own video game.

hence "almost," not that I intend to make a habit of defending jono.
They have a TBS - Sanctus Reach, wich is admitedly a very good game and probably is better game than Battle Sector. But its graphics are too bad for a general public to like it. And the genre is niche.
And they have a crappy mobile card game.
Hardly over represented.
