More pants, less dresses
Seriously, every single one of my characters looks like they're wearing a dress. It doesn't matter what armor I give. Even the coats look like dresses. It may sound chauvinistic, but this game lacks male role models apart from Heinrix

In 40k most high level nobility/ admin guys and girls were robes. Most people were some kind of robe. So robe is popular to evoke the medieval outlook at life.

In addition to robes for Admintratum, Tech Priests and so on... the coats re "greatcoats," meant to evoke the Napoleonic Wars and World War 1

They're not dresses... but they do woosh just as a good as a skirt, and wooshy cloathing is the best.

Must be hard having such fragile masculinity that flowy clothes in a game gives you an aneurysm. :inquisition:

I still want my squad to look like imperial guards

If you ask why? Then we have nothing to talk about

I think you're better off focusing on a character's actions, behaviours and thoughts instead of their clothing, if you're looking for a role model. As others have said, the robes are meant to evoke imagery of medieval times, and the ecclesiarchy. Also, greatcoats and capes were common in other eras of history.

More towards your point thought - I believe that you can turn off the image for the helmet, but maybe it's possible for other items too? Or if it isn't yet, why don't you put in a request for it with Owlcat?

But personally, I think you're conflating a few different things. Namely, that clothing like robes etc dictate the potential for someone to be a good male role model. Also, you're conflating your personal want to have characters to look like a guardsman with your need to look for a male role model. Really, you've got 3 different things here that you're lumping together.

Here we go again, the insecure squad has arrived.

If your masculinity is tied so closely to wearing pants over some nice looking robes, you somehow associate good role modals with what people wear and are looking for role modals in a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 40K game of all places, I cant help but think that you need to take a good long look in the mirror.

Nope! Skirt, kilt, cape, hakama, long coat, dress... none of those are bad... swish is fun... swishy is best.

Making it sound like there is only one imperial guard look, each regiment look differently and there are plenty of imperial guard regiments that uses great coats or something akin to them.

That said, i wouldn't mind the option of something more Cadian like either. There is apparently a Kasrkin Armour ingame, haven't seen it yet so no idea if it shows more leg or not, but it might.

Abelard basically has the same look as a Valhallan trooper. A greatcoat underneath torso armour.

He DOES look like a guardsman. And he is a naval officer so... yeah. Guy is pretty traditionally masculine.
