What is the best types of pistols for a Commissar build?
For concept and effectiveness, what is some of the best pistols for a Commissar build? So someone with a split proficiency and is using a pistol, someone with 2 big problems working against him.

-Plasma Pistols? There's a few really good ones I've found in Act 2 still.
-Bolter pistols? Does full auto at close range cover the mediocre ballistic skill?
-Flamer of Melta weapons? Are there some really good ones later on in Act 3-5?
-Or is there some regular pistols that are actually good I haven't found yet?

Plasma pistols remain the best of best for me since they are so versatile, you can even fire them essentially forever with a good crit build due to Pair holster (refunds your AP and attack turn if crit).

I suggest you dual wield them, pick dual wielding talent, use Pair holster.

Sadly, the best Bolt pistol in the game (found in Act 4) is a heretic drop by the game's CSM.

you can get the precise bolt pistol on grantis in act 2, also some good auto pistols like the daredevil pistol which has high ammo capacity and 0 cost burst fire. also explosive anti tank revolvers late game

get a foehammer (it's a one-handed shotgun but also qualifies as a pistol) 10/10 and items triggering free shots of pistol crits (it says "works once in a round" but there is no limit and probably it won't be fixed for 6+ months since it's Owlcats we are talking about, also multiple bugs with second hand triggering knockdowns as some people reported), at least for one of the hands

Plasma pistols, easily. Some of the Xenos pistols are good (I really like the Blast Pistol I keep on Jae), but overall Plasma are going to be the best. Bolt or las/autopistols work early on for some good Burst Fire, or even later on I guess in the second slot if you want some Burst Fire action.

I would go classic Power Sword + Plasma Pistol type, and then in the off set either have a sniper (or at least a good Bolter/Plasma rifle) for more range. You could also double down on the off hand set and use a Flamer/Shotgun/Melta up close, or those as a pistol + another melee weapon like a Power Maul for more Armor Pen I guess.

Hold on, it says "the next attack with a pistol costs 0 AP". It doesn't say it's a free action? And even if it does gives a free attack it's "Once per turn", so how can you "fire them essentailly forever"?

For some reasons, the way it works in game is if you get a crit, it negates the AP spent and attack action so you can do it again and again.

My RT is mainly a buffer strategist but due to high stats and Forgeworld origins, I crit consistently.

Sounds like a bug then. Probably the "Once per turn" thing doesn't work as it should, because I crit consistently, but APs for these attacks are spent.

in all honestly dark elder pistols are the best

Or you could just...you know...choose not to abuse the bug? People complain about bugs but when they have the option to not abuse them they ignore it...

1) It's not that strong overall (you can NOT proc a crit on a hit, you know, luck-based);
2) You can choose to not use any free hits after the first one if you are concerned about it being a bug;
3) There is no description on the item about behaviour when you do a multi-hit with a pistol and some hits are crits and some are not;
4) Anyway it's a description of a CURRENT situation for a person who is going to play it in near months, so it's his choices anyway;

Plasma. Versatile and powerful.
Jámez Bondo Jan 21, 2024 @ 11:15am
Plasma AoE has a good range and skips the BS check, so it's the most reliable and versatile.

inferno (melta) pistol is pretty good too, you get more pen, higher base damage, and, the best thing 1ap cost AoE cone. Though, its range makes it pretty limited, I wouldn't say its that much worse than a plasma pistol. (like, 1-2 squares)
