Way to recharge the ship Ultimate abilities ?
Hey everyone,

As title says, do you know a way to recharge those abilities ?

Right now, I'm at the final ship battle of Chap 5. It would probably be doable if I could use the All Hands on Deck! ultimate. Sadly, it's on cooldown.

As read in different places, I've tried to hop a bit from system to system, load some random combat maps, even load some maps... Nothing seems to work. Even more strangely, doing that seems to **increase** the cooldown of the ultimate abilities : there are some abilities that I could previously use (when attempting the last ship battle), and that are now on cooldown (when retrying the same battle).

I also tried to start the combat by fleeing... I can flee for a long time, but this doesn't help with the recharge.

It's strange that this game offers close to no challenge when it comes to party combat (the balance of archetypes and talents being broken as it is) but delivers some ship battles that are close to impossible if you happen to have the Ultimates of your ship on cooldown (since that last fight that happened several warp jums ago).

I really enjoyed Kingmaker and WoTR (played them on release). Can't say the same for this game.

I believe that there's a random factor involved in the recharge amounts. That's why when you reload and do the same set of actions you may reach a combat and have a different charge level than you did the first time. I recall one battle I had which went badly, even though I had a particular ability available. I reloaded the game to refight that battle (I had saved right before the battle), and when I entered combat the second time, the ability was not available (nearly recharged, but not quite fully).

If you are dealing with a tough fight that you initiate, you can do other things and then go start the fight when the abilities you want are available. If it is a combat that is forced upon you, then you have to try to make due with what you've got at the time, or else you have to figure out what triggers that combat and avoid it until your abilities are recharged.

I am the one initiating the fight, but chapter 5 is small, there's not much to do there.

And if I try to revisit some places, instead of helping with the cooldown of abilities, it *increases* those cooldowns...

Recharging of the ultimates is pretty much bonkers. I have seen the numbers for recharging going up and down while cruising the map.
I think the only way to charge them is in Space Battles, very much like momentum works in tactical combat. Even then it takes you several battles to recharge an ultimates, making them practically a one-shot use.

On one colony there is a project which specifically targets the rechatge of these ultimates (a tier IV upgrade, I think). If you have this one completed, you get your ultimates recharges consistantly (but you still couldn't use them each battle).

Anyway, there is only one space battle were you really need the ultimates, the one where you have to fight four frigates and a cruiser. I had only the ultimate available which gives you +30 percent evasion. without using t, I had no chance of winning this engagement.

Yeah it seems to also work like momentum like Schugger says, but much slower and crosses over combat to combat.

The best way to gain ship ultimates I believe, is to cheese green jumps until you break the "jump seed" on your next yellow jump, until you get a positive string of bonuses like ship ultimate resource.

Another thing you can do is hope to get a ship battle event for a colony, and not use your ultimates thus recharging them over time.

Care to elaborate please ? I don't get what you mean.

I gave up and did that fight on "easy". Took long but was indeed easy. Then, I put difficulty back to Daring and rushed through the end of the game. The final boss went down as usual : Finest Hour! on Pasqal who was shooting 1k damage plasma bullets on a boss that had no armor thanks to some previous shots from Argenta (Pierce the Armor). The boss summoned a glowing ball at some point, and that was it. Apart from that, it didn't act. Got the achievement for completing the game on Daring difficulty, which shouldn't be the case. Couldn't manage to become a Zealot (iconoclast).

Same, ran out of juice at about 360 points at iconoclast, but have some 80 points at dogmatic, too.
Didn't even finish the game at max level...
Visited all possible location where you could make planetfall (which is also an archievement).
Got a level during the final fight which would have let me up to level 54.
I think I've missed something...

Nah they did the same thing in Wrath, they had to patch in extra XP for generals as you couldn't actually get the levels at release time ...

He means use green warp jumps untill the lazy game decides to change the seed for random jump events, which it should be doing using the time, but doesn't.
