So a bunch of equipment and talents can give you quite massive amounts of momentum.

And I am now asking myself: What for?

The uses for momentum are quite limited, except for two specific builds (Sanctic with Sword of Faith and a Tactician with the heroic upgrade that makes it useable once per round) you only need a quite limited amount of momentum per fight, namely just enough to activate your heroic once.

But then I see potential to build up so much momentum every single turn and I am wondering if I am missing something or these are really just there for the two aforementioned builds.

There are other people who can activate more than one heroic ability per battle too. Though mainly you want to activate everyone's heroic abilities. It actually takes a lot of momentum to use everyone's heroic ability during a battle. Especially if you are trying to activate several of them in one turn.

Which can actually be pretty insane when you activate like 3/4 in the first turn of combat.

Momentum is the reason every combat ends before your enemies get to act, namely by giving Argenta 3 turns in a row + she gets 10000 more single shots from her own Heroic Act.

For the most part, your combats will not last long enough to run out of heroics, and you'll be glad to have momentum boosting so you get to use at least some before the combat is over.

There are fights where your starting momentum will be notably gimped or there will be conditions which will decrease your momentum, so you'll want a boost to get out from that pit.
Daemons, randomly appearing warp clouds, that kind of stuff.

Just want to point out that even if a person has used there heroic ability they still build momentum for other people in the group. Like everybody is sharing the same pool so to speak. You pretty much want to stack as much resolve/momentum stuff as possible really.
