Character Creation - Kinda False Advertizing?
So, during character creation, game kinda makes a big deal about your origin and triumphs\darkest moments. Which is cool, I like that it's a thing, it's fun and I would love if more games would do that.

I mean it's such a perfect thing for the RP potential, no? Have few extra strokes to define you, make you feel unique. EXCEPT.

Game kinda forgets about these so fast. I loved all the unique options I had as a Crime Lord, and I loved few blurbs I had for darkest moment and triumph, but I can count each on one hand, even if those are fun and well written, there's so few. I'm genuinely curious about other ones, if there's more, if there's less for other origins. But ultimately, after you move on from Footfall for the first time, it never ever comes up again.

Game makes big deal from my character having PTSD over seeing a torture scene (on space prison quest), but then when he ends up in Dark Aeldari place, where everything is torture, and stares at torture devices, he's chill with that? Feels like an omission narratively.

Mind you, I don't say they should come up ALL THE TIME NONSTOP. Frequency up to footfall is fine, I just would like them to come up at all. I think it's weirder still when you're, for example, psyker, and yet people have zero reaction to you as one - even though it's kind of a big deal, you should be able to mess with people hardcore, while forces of warp should be messing with you?

Again, I'm not asking for it to be a constant larp or something, it'd just be nice if it were acknowledged at all, at least sometimes.

Writing big, sprawly complex story games with multitudes of possible derivations and deviations is insanely hard.

No, sorry, that's actually a gross understatement.

Enjoy what works, don't look to hard at what doesn't -quite- fit from a narrative standpoint.

I totally get it, and I'm willing to let a lot of things slide, including bugs and lack of polish - I LOVE this game, even if it feels like it's 70% finished if not less.

But what I'm talking about, I don't think would be hard to add? Just few extra dialogue boxes here and there. Just something extra from our character's perspective? Could be a dialogue choice rewritten with origin context? Like I'm a layman, but I don't think it's impossible.

or, game shouldn't make it sound important when it isn't then because when you create a character, you get origins NARRATIVELY, not as a class. It's supposed to matter, everything points at it mattering.

i have some bad news for you. not only does it have no effect RP-wise, some of the cornerstone talents provided by the origin do not work. For example Death World talent, which gives you 20% dodge/armor when having bonus hp does not work. And i havent specifically tested it but I think the second half, which gives one bonus hp, when hp drops below certain mark, does not work either.

Okay, I think when it comes to Origin - triumph\darkest hour - homeworld, homeworld is definitely occam's razored from the narrative because it'd be a bit much, and there's too many of those. The fact the talents from homeworld don't work - that blows. I never took them, because they looked sus to me, now I know I was wise to trust my gut.

There's a lot that doesn't quite work at the moment. Give it time, they're working on it. The current experience is somewhat buggy - which is an improvement from last week's insanely buggy.

By the end of the month, it'll be better again.

By Easter, it'll be looking pretty good.

As for the 'I don't think it would be too hard to add...' - a phrase uttered by many that sends mortal terror into the hearts of game developers everywhere. :)

Adding a new dialogue choice is the kind of thing that causes quests to explode three chapters later that should be totally unrelated. Why? Because. Just because.

Games dev is honestly like that sometimes.

Which isn't to say they won't do it, but that they need to approach such things with the proper care, diligence and prayers to the machine spirit lest they accidentally let in scrap code that drags the whole thing screaming into the warp.

There is no such thing as a quick addition.

I'm trying to suggest insertions that are conservative tho - not a new dialogue choice, but rewrite existing one to have flavor, at least? Idkkkk, I understand that as broken as game is right now, it's probably not a priority.

I just would like to voice it anyway, even if it gets ignored :(

No, I agree! It would be awesome to see more of that stuff.

I also suspect it isn't a priority, and these things... are not what you think they are.

Most computer games are held together with duct tape, cat videos and hope. It's a miracle they even run. Do not look inside the box. :)

I had a similar feeling with my commissar when I encountered a... certain npc.

I think I remember having origin specific dialog maybe 3 times, and the first two were in the prologue. It would be nice to get just a little more. Honestly? I think it could probably be modded in given time. They have day 1 workshop support after all.

But yeah it would be nice to have more. It didn't break my heart, but I was left wanting more.

oh, I was wondering about this one... Yeah, it's definitely not the worst thing, but I hope it's expanded upon, since it's such a fun little element and it adds spice to replaying it.

Besides! When you play WoTR, your race and your class get mentioned aplenty throughout the entire game (at least it was the case for my kitsune\alchemist, and i heard being aasimar is pretty fun too) - so not like they are new to adding this sort of reactivity.

Yeah it's kind of lame that picking a Commissar at the beginning and only having 2 "Im a commissar" conversation topics, and one of them I believe is traitor man at the start beginning.

As a crime lord I had the option to study the guy and game told me he's totally not a traitor. And later I heard he actually was a traitor, which made me realize - wow, crime lord is a moron. And also that game lies.

I wish there was more moments like that.

The odd one for me was starting from the Navy Officer Origin, and strangely I still got the "Navigation? Warp Translation? What's that?" chat option when talking to Theodora for the first time, surely as a Navy Officer I should know that stuff already. Also was doubled up a bit when talking to the Vox Master on the bridge, "What's it mean to be Voidborn?" I asked, as a VOIDBORN character...

Do you know how big of a deal being a rogue trader is? You made a name for yourself in a few systems as a crime lord, but the nobility of a thousand thousand worlds tremble at the thought of crossing a rogue trader.

I agree that the reactivity isn't as good as it could be and sometimes it's quite lacking. But most of the time it's passable.
