Autopistol best gun in game might be a little silly.
If you go arch militant, and build your character right, there is this weapon called dare devils pistol. It has 0 recoil on burst, which means you basically never miss. It has 8 shots by default, but 16 with rapidfire. If you have even with just a few stacks of versatility this is almost guaranteed to critical hit. A critical hit does about 45 damage, to anything. So that's 360 damage per burst. The pistol also costs 0 AP to fire, so you can repeatedly fire it until you run out of action points. So this is how it goes:

Free turn, burst for 360, for free, use wildfire to get a second burst for 360. You have now have 4 versatility. Use your ult to get a free attack, burst again for 360.

Cassia now does her ult on Agenta, start over, repeat the above for an additional 1080 turn. But wait, Cassia ult makes it so you can fire more, put on rapid fire as well, do a burst for 756 damage, cast revel in slaughter, realize you do even more damage now, recast run and gun, cast even more bursts.

Potentially you can also do a few melee hits to get up your versatility if your BS is not high enough to crit everytime. you can get 10 stacks in a turn or so if you do it right.

In short, do 6,000 damage with an auto pistol and kill Act 4 boss in 1 turn.

Meanwhile relic bolters, meltaguns and plasma rifles sitting around looking stupid. My second Arch militant does more with a homemade stubber of 6 damage, than with a relic bolter. Very silly.

Is your complaint, "I built a specific over powered way, used specific niche weapons that benefit the build, and thus became overpowered" ?

And now look on Deadeye Splinter Rifle (or Aeldari Shuriken Cannon / Splinter Cannon while you're still in Act2)... :steamhappy:

I think its more along the lines of.

"In a world where we have weapons that shoot out, 30mm grenades, super heater plasma that can melt through armor, laser guns, a microwave gun that can melt armor into liquid in a second, why is it the pistol that shoots out pitiful 9mm rounds the best weapon."

There is 11 times per turn limit. So you cannnot fire that burst pistol forever but 11 times.

a) Only on point blank range. That's realistic - pistols and SMG are still used on it.
It's broken a bit later by crazy effect from tons of Versatility stacks but we all know how much they're broken.

b) Low ammo capacity hurting a lot.

c) Natural RoF is low (only 8) so he forced either burn out AP on Rapid Fire or fall beyond better guns almost instantly.

I don't see a real power here, only a nice gun for doing sub-par build.

What is a higher possible damage than this build?

You can break the game in many different ways.

To just kind of one up all of this:

There is an accessory called the Cogni-Simulacrum. One aspect of it is that you can use it as an action to attempt a Logic test at some difficulty. If successful, the accessory is destroyed, but the character that completes it can now use their Heroic Action any number of times, without spending momentum.

Play the game normally until you get this item, then respec an Officer into being good at Logic tests. Make sure the Officer has the seize the initiative talent or whatever it is that lets them act first. Have them succeed on the test and now be able to perform their Heroic Action whenever.

From this point on, your enemies will never have a turn. Why? Because when control is returned back to the officer after after the initial target of their HA has had a turn, the officer can perform their HA again. So basically from turn 0, you can just order around some other character to constantly take actions.

So sure, you can spec a character to do an insane amount of damage, but its also possible to get to a point where the enemy never gets a turn. Talent/gear wise its is also fairly unobtrusive as it just takes the one item, the seize the initiative talent, and respeccing the one time to maximize logic tests. Once you have the ability, you can play any way you want.

So I'm happily just having my officer MC order around Sister Argenta while she mows everything down with a heavy bolter. Do it long enough and get those stacks of versatility high enough and its crits of 300-500 damage per hit. I one rounded the defiler, one rounded the c'tan (plus or minus a few issues where they get interrupting turns and I had to do a slight shuffle).

and this is better than fully buffed Improved Heavy Bolter / Calibrated Stubber... how exactly? lategame you're not exactly limited by AP with all the ways to get more free attacks, and unlike your pistol. with a heavy weapon you'll actually be in range of stuff...

How does this beat a heavy bolter/heavy stubber build in any way whatsoever?

That item is bugged, it should make you use Heroic action for free, but not more than once in a combat.

It is not. It is poorly thought , maybe. No where in description says once per combat or once per turn.

it actually does say that it only works once per combat ... maybe not in the perk you get after solving it, but its in the item description.

As you see here no where it tells you once per combat/turn.
