Your main character can become an unsanctioned Psyker if you want once you hit Exemplar level (and are not already a sanctioned Psyker). If so your psi will work like Irdira's. So be warned.
Idira is an Unsanctioned Psyker, which in Owlcat's adaptation of the Rogue Trader RPG rules means any use of her powers has a chance to trigger Perils of the Warp no matter the circumstances. You keep her around if you're not playing either Heretic or a Dogmatic fanatical enough to murder her at the first opportunity because she is the only one of the story based Companions statted by default to be a good sniper, she can reveal things related to story events, and she can give warnings (that last one may or may not in some circumstances prevent enemies from ambushing you in the first round of combat, I am uncertain).
Don't think of it as a horrible inconvenient monster. Think of it as summoning a present that will bring a smile to Argenta's face.
The only saving grace was that I had Abelard and Kibellah with me, and they 2v1'd the Bloodletter handily, while the rest of my retinue sans the unconscious Idira sniped the last enemies. Still lenghtened the fight for two rounds at least.
