Cargo Percentages
I literally have no idea what I'm looking at with these cargo percentages. Could someone please explain to me like I'm seven years old?

The way the game's economy works is pretty arcane but actually really interesting. It's one of the best adaptations I've seen for how the TTRPG did it. I, personally, really enjoy it.

So, as you go forth and collect loot, you have the option of sending it to your cargo or to your inventory. You may move items between the two "zones" at any time, so don't worry if you think you made a mistake. You'll just have to go find it, which might take time depending on how cluttered your tabs are.

When you put stuff in Cargo, it gets assigned a tab based on type. Ranged Weapon, Melee Weapon, Armor Kit, Ship Component, Fuel, Jewelry, Heretic Artifact, the list goes on. Every item has a Type and a X% of Cargo value. This means, if you move that item to Cargo, it will fill up X% of that tab. The game will try to balance your goods so that Cargo tabs do not exceed 100%, but in the beginning you will see a few tabs over 100 until you pick up more things and the game shuffles the "bigger stuff" into their own tabs.

EXAMPLE: I have four Laspistols and an Autogun in a Ranged Weapon tab. The Laspistols are 20% of Cargo each and the Autogun is 30%, so total Cargo tab is 110%. If I pick up a fifth Laspistol, the game will kick the Autogun into a new Ranged Weapon tab and my five Laspistols will be stuffed into a box and sold together for an even 100% of Reputation value.

As far as I'm aware, Cargo space (and possibly Inventory as well) is infinite. Always loot the map while adventuring, there is zero reason to not steal like a capitalist.

When interacting with Merchants, you can only sell Cargo tabs that are at 100% or above. This will net you however much Reputation that Cargo tab was worth. There should be a list of values in the Merchant screen that tells you what they accept and how much thy pay for it.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You do not gain extra Reputation for Cargo values over 100%.

Buying Stuff: Merchants have "Tiers" of goods that you unlock by increasing your Reputation with them. If you have Profit Factor equal to or greater than the cost of the item, you can just take it, no questions asked. Profit Factor is not spent in the buying of goods from a Merchant.

Thanks for taking the time, friend -- totally appreciate it. So let's take my current game. UNIFORM KIT is 100%. XENO-ARTEFACTS 25%. But 25% of what? 25% of that specific category? Hold on, I just realized there are two UNIFORM KITS. One is at 100% and the other is 20%. Does that mean that once a category reaches 100% it starts "anew"? None of my categories are above 100%. Same with MELEE WEAPONRY, I have two categories. One is at 100% and the other is at 10%. It sounds like when I trade next I'll be able to sell the 100% MELEE WEAPONRY -- assuming the trader wants it -- but not the 10% MELEE WEAPONRY?

I think I get it now. Every category that is at 100% has a check mark next to it, which I assume means it can be traded. I'm pretty sure I read that the game has been patched and so cargo categories no longer exceed 100%. For example, I used to see categories that read 106%, etc., but not anymore.

they reduced rep by half, and then capped cargo to only show 100%...so it's easier to ignore cargo mgmt..so yeah you can only trade things at 100%

There is a bug - or math error - with the cargo. The blue dynamo like things fill 75% of a cargo unit, and get never filled up to 100%. I could not put two together for 150% either. Probably there is some item of the same category that was forgotten to be distributed.

Just so you know, cargo crates can contain more than 100%, but since the recent patch the game lies to you and only shows 100%.

So you can still have 106% in a crate, but the game will tell you that you have 100% in that crate, and if you can take 6% out of that crate and put it in a new crate then you will still have a 100% crate and you will also have a 6% crate.

If that seems bad, it is.
