Lord Inquisitor kind of a jerk
He's a grade-A jackass. Busts into my house, knocks out my servant, acts snide and accusatory, and generally acts like King ♥♥♥♥. Boy was lucky I didn't put a bolt in his skull and decapitate Heinrix. I'm no heretic, and anyone who can even remotely watch my actions will know that my sole concern is for my people and their welfare. It's a real shame there's no option later to just eject his little spy out into space.

Not a single one. So everything correct - was a proper trial and RT was sentenced to death.
It doesnt mention a trial but sure, there can be one, it makes 0 difference.

Reason for punishment was possession of null bay, proving intention to trade in rogue psykers.
Thats evidence standard and punishment was more than quick execution.

Huge difference. Conclave on Inquisitors capable to declare another Inquisitor "Excomunicated Diabolus". So Null Bay quote basically confirmed RT is ~= Inquisitor himself in social standing.

In the grimdark future of the 41st M, it doesn't take a "good guy" to be cool to prospective allies. But it does take a weakling and an idiot to pointlessly alienate powerful friends.

Why would the Inquisitor act in a dominant way when he was not dominant? Indeed, he actually needed voluntary help from a cooperative RT!

An exchange between two mighty and influential leaders should be more sensible.

Instead, we got lazy writing.

No, it doesnt, it means only that specific cabal was interested in said rogue trader and considering theyre ordo hereticus that means they were very much so interested in trade of rogue psykers it almost certainly meant that couple inquisitors stumbled upon same person when they investigated mentions of rogue psykers being purchased.

Again im gonna quote from same book series

"Although rare, there are recorded cases of an Inquisitor being
granted the Warrant of Trade and taking up the rank of Rogue
Trader. The most likely reason this might occur is as a result
of political manoeuvring within the Inquisition itself, perhaps
resulting in the outmanoeuvred individual being offered the
Warrant as an alternative to a far less desirable outcome.
Upon being granted the Warrant, the Inquisitor will
understand that he has no alternative but to accept. As it is most
often members of the alien-hunting Ordo Xenos who find
themselves being appointed as Rogue Traders, these individuals
will be well equipped for their new career. Although no longer
able to call on the nigh-limitless resources of the Inquisition,
the Rogue Trader will still wield considerable powers and
influence."
this is framed as demotion and reduction of power

"Individual
Inquisitors are free-roaming trouble-shooters bound by no laws
or authority. There are no bounds to the Inquisitor’s field of
operation—alien plots, administrative inefficiency, corruption,
mutations, crime, secret cults, heresy, and unauthorised psychic
activities all come under his jurisdiction."
"No world, no organisation, no individual, is immune to the
Inquisition’s gaze; planetary governors, even the High Lords
themselves, are subject to investigation and no treachery or
betrayal of the Emperor is too petty to be left unpunished."
again no limit even high lords of terra those who speak for the emperor inside imperium.

"The Imperium grants Rogue Traders great power, for
without such power their task would be insurmountable, and
individuals of sufficient will and purpose would seldom seek
such a role. Even so, their autonomy is not always as complete
as it may seem, nor their power as unassailable as they might
wish to believe. The Imperium has many organisations, offices
and departments with a vested interest in the discoveries and
exploits of a Rogue Trader, and as many more again who
turn their attentions towards the Rogue Traders themselves,
watchful for signs of corruption or infirmity that would
jeopardise their duty to Him-on-Terra.
Surrounded as they are by all manner of adjutants, advisors
and assistants, a Rogue Trader’s entourage is the perfect place
for an agent of one of those myriad organisations, their loyalty
given to an authority higher than that of the individual they
watch so carefully
. Some operate openly, their differing
loyalties plain for all to see, their advice given in the best
interests of their superiors. Others keep their true purpose
hidden, acting as spies against the man they claim to serve, all
in the name of greater masters."
again many organisations are more important than rogue trader and despite seeming freedom there are many limits.

"Most
notorious and terrifying amongst these is the Inquisition, whose
vigilant Acolytes move secretly through all parts of the Imperium,
with the ships of Rogue Traders no exception. However, where
the agents of the Inquisition may be the most obvious example
of Agents of the Throne, they are far from the only ones.
With new worlds, forgotten enclaves of humankind and
lost knowledge of immense worth to be found beyond the
reach of the Imperium, the Ecclesiarchy and the Adeptus
Mechanicus both are eager to send agents out to find and
exploit these resources. The Missionaria Galaxia of the
Ecclesiarchy and the Explorators of the Adeptus Mechanicus
are the most overt agents these organisations possess, but
others are used as well. Within the Calixis Sector and out into
the Koronus Expanse, for example, Pontifex-Auditors serve as
the spies and observers of Cardinal Ignato.
No less significant are Administratum and Departmento
Munitorum Archivists, who record in exacting detail the exploits
of their subject, or representatives of Lord-Admirals of the Imperial
Navy and Lord-Generals of the Imperial Guard who wish to
keep a close eye on the realms they may one day be crusading to
conquer in the Emperor’s name. Even the Navis Nobilite is wont
to indulge in secretive intelligence-gathering, another part of
the great game of intrigue that runs all through the Great
Houses of the Navigators."
and these are examples for above.
1)arbites
2)inquisition
3)ecclesiarchy
4)explorators
5)admninistratum
6)departamento munitorum and by extension both navy and guard.

“You may speak with His voice in this Throne-forsaken place, Lord-
Captain, but I am His eyes and ears, and it may serve you well not to
utter such blasphemies where He can hear...”
–Confessor Aidus hevaille, Pontifex-Auditor of Synod Calixis

and this is finally in universe quote attached to above role, turns out mere ecclesiarchy confessor can openly threaten rogue trader.

Do you know how many times trial is mentioned in there? 0

The Inquisition, as an organization, has nigh-limitless power. An individual Inquisitor? Not by a LONG shot. How many Inquisitors out there do you think are that have been declared renegades, having gone past what is allowed even of the agents of the Golden Throne?

Kryptmann is perhaps the most famous (and hilariously extreme) example.

Furthermore, out in the boonies of the Koronus Expanse? No, out there, Rogue Traders are
basically petty kings. They are VERY SPECIFICALLY carved out as exceptions upon a great many Imperial laws that would see almost anyone else ultra-murdered just for thinking about doing such things.

Anyone who tried to attack them without solid proof that they've overstepped the immense freedoms offered to them by the Warrant would, at the very least, find themselves embroiled in one hell of a firefight, and at worst be put down by other Imperial authorities as overstepping their bounds.

An Inquisitor who wants to challenge a powerful force like a thriving Rogue Trader dynasty - or, crazily enough, one or more of the High Lords as you yourself proposed is within their authority for example - needs proof. And no, "because I said so, and also I have an Inquisitorial rosette" does not suffice.

Read the above post, ill add more.

"Law in the Imperium—however much it
may vary from world to world—is a cruel and brutal
thing, intended as much to demonstrate the indisputable
power of those that rule as to ensure order and justice. When
embarking upon illegal endeavours, Rogue Traders and their
crews must be wary of the watchful gaze and swift retaliation
of many groups, from local authorities beholden to an Imperial
Commander, to the fleets of the Adeptus Mechanicus, Adeptus
Arbites, and Imperial Navy, to the exacting scrutiny of the
Administratum and Inquisition."
Voodoo Dec 28, 2023 @ 9:33am
"Consequently, many Inquisitors of all Ordos maintain a
careful watch over criminal activities, though they may often
leave the matter of ending those activities to other organisations
(if they choose to act against them at all), informing the
Imperial Navy and Adeptus Arbites of smugglers, black
market traders, and pirates when it suits their designs.

"The most senior Interrogator of Inquisitor Bahamet Xerces,
Oktavian has operated at his master’s behest on and near Port
Wander for the better part of twenty years, starting initially
as an Acolyte working undercover on Footfall."
"Oktavian is ruthless and extremely political, a growing
hidden power within the Calixis Sector, who has demonstrated
considerable proficiency in commanding covert operations
and manipulating unwitting resources. Few who he seeks to
bring low ever see his face until they are dragged before him
in chains and condemned for their crimes."

“Theron Medar, for the crimes of xenos contamination, you are
hereby condemned to death by the authority of the Inquisition. You
may seek absolution for your crimes, that you may face the Emperor
and be judged by Him. Should you refuse this opportunity, your soul
will burn as your body does. Choose now, and die.”
–Interrogator Deric Oktavian

"The Inquisition itself
may be the greatest ally an Explorer has against such tainted
foes. An Inquisitor’s resources are many and his reach is long.
While the Inquisition’s presence is somewhat diminished in
the frontier of the Expanse, they are indeed present, and their
methods are matched only by their zeal. A Rogue Trader who
calls on the Inquisition for aid must beware his own safety,
however, for as it has been said, “innocence proves nothing.”"

"Even in so vast a space as the Imperium of Man, paths cross
and competing interests come into conflict. Undermining
the connections of a powerful noble can land one on a
Prison World for a lifetime as quickly as an encounter with
the Inquisition can ruin a reputation for the same term. No
Rogue Trader is safe to exercise the rights granted him by
his Warrant of Trade—or go beyond them for that matter—
without putting something at risk in the venture."

below is excerpt from section on potential enemies.
"A domain as vast as the Imperium of Man can not help but
encounter enemies on several fronts, and will suffer these enemies
from within as well as without. For this reason it is necessary that
the Imperium employ the likes of the Inquisition. Their methods
are ruthless and their means are limitless. Those who draw the
eye of the Inquisition do so with their thoughts as much as their
actions. To face an Inquisitor is to face an enemy who does not
aim to simply kill his quarry, but instead to force their repentance
and contrition before sending them from this life.
The Enemy Within: An over-zealous agent of the
Inquisition, stamping out blasphemy and deviance wherever he
imagines its presence. Unable to see beyond the harsh teachings
of his own, paranoid order, he sees heresy at every turn.
Disregarding their warrant to interact with the xenos of the
Expanse on behalf of the Imperium itself, the Inquisitor stalks
the Explorers beyond the bounds of Imperial space to put an
end to their imagined unorthodoxy. To halt the spread of their
deviance, he silences forever those who have had contact with
the Explorers, so that they not become corrupt themselves."

You can add all you want. But these examples you list are within Imperial space - where the Warrant does -not- grant it's extraordinary rights as much as it does on the frontier. Of course when a Rogue Trader enters 'civilized' space they must be cautious because they're no longer a big fish in a little pond.

But out there? Again, they are far, far beyond the reach of many authorities - not the least because the authorities literally don't have much of a foothold in places like the Koronus Expanse, and, furthermore, the Warrant literally offers them far greater power than it does in the core regions.

"Not only that, but Rogue Traders are granted the permission and freedom to deal with these cultures as they see fit, so long as it is judged to be in the interests of the Imperium. Having said that, it can be assumed that a Renegade Rogue Trader guilty of heresy or treason will be severely prosecuted by the Inquisition if discovered and captured. Their punishment will be that much more severe if they are deemed undeserving of the Emperor's extraordinary trust in their family.

Rogue Traders usually return to Imperial space every few standard years, to unload their exotic wares and re-supply, recruit, and rest until the next foray into the darkness of unknown space. During these periods they may come into conflict with members of the Adeptus Terra or the Inquisition. Rogue Traders wield incredible power, and it is easy for them to forget that once back within the Imperium, they do not have free rein to act as they wish."

"It should be noted that although Rogue Traders are shipmasters who travel the vastness of space, their authority to do so comes not from a Merchant Charter as usually granted by the Administratum to the Chartist Captains of the Imperial Merchant Fleets, but rather a letter of appointment known as a Warrant of Trade that elevates them to a level of Imperial authority and status equaling that held by Space Marine Chapter Masters, Inquisitors and Imperial planetary governors."

I could go on too if you want.

go on, i have more quotes specifically about koronus expanse, outside of imperium.

There crucial part you quoted there "so long as it is judged to be in the interests of the Imperium", aka as long as they are useful and dont draw anybodys ire.

We can quote-war at eachother all you want, it's not gonna change a damn thing. Also, Port Wander is in fact in the Calixis Sector, not the Koronus Expanse.. And Calixis is considered officially Imperial. Koronus, not so much.

What, kind of like.. If we're indeed useful to the Imperium and a Lord-Inquisitor gives us a nod, because 1: Again, useful to the Imperium and 2: He needs our help anyway and knows that he'd be an idiot to try and force it?

Also, "anybody's ire". Right. "Yeah, you're legally allowed to do this.. Unless it happens to annoy Billy Bob there. In that case, nah."

"The Inquisition is always watching, or at least it is foolish to
assume otherwise. In the Koronus Expanse their grasp may
not be as strong as in the Calixis Sector, but Port Wander
can always be assumed to be covered with spies of all types
and even the mightiest Rogue Trader must always be mindful
their cargo and the possible dangers it might represent."

"The Cold Trade has existed in the Calixis Sector in some form
or another long before the Sector’s official beginning, for there
have always been humans covetous of alien materials. With the
coming of the Inquisition came the strictures against dealing with
the xenos and their wares, lest the human soul be contaminated
by such unholy devices. As the rule of law became more and
more firm across the Sector, the trade shrank, with only the most
prosaic and unassuming alien items still to be found (except in
the hands of elite collectors or radical Inquisitors)."

"Operating inside the Cold Trade but also part of the
continued struggle against it, is the League of Black Crystal.
Lead by the Inquisitor Lady Odessa Morelle and Interrogator
Marius Chaney, this small group of radical Ordo Xenos agents
has posed as a Cold Trade operation for several decades now
since their break with the Xeno Hybris (itself a Radical faction
of the Inquisition). Their identification is the shimmering
obsidian shard each wears, fragments of a larger xenos crystal
which will grow suddenly cold when near another shard. Here
they play both sides against the middle for what they hope is
the continued existence of mankind. Inside the business, they
can watch over who is working which deals, who is buying
from what alien races, which dead civilisations are being
exhumed, and other aspects of the Trade. For the most
part they act as any other trading group, only stepping
in when in their view there is specifically hazardous
merchandise that should not enter the Calixis
Sector."

Yeah absolutely, he doesnt need to kill you, he can just show up in your house reminding you that youre not safe just because youre in your own house outside of imperium.

Youre legally allowed to negotiate with xenos, till inquisition decides that this specific xenos are responsible for something like taking over janus, suddenly youre working against imperium, wittingly or not.

Just get to act 2, open you cargo hold and tell me how many chaos artifacts and xenotech you have, both highly illegal.

Was there a point there? I mean, besides that Port Wander is in the Calixis Sector, and thus effectively irrelevant to this game since unless chapter 5 is throwing us a curveball, it's purely in the Koronus Expanse.
