Main thing you will be looking at though is the weapons armour penetration, it may do 5 more damage on average but if it has 20% less base armour penetration it may be inferior to the one your using.
Advantage of using chain weapons over power weapons :
(1) first of all chains weapons are a lot, you encounter them a lot in the game and there are variations of slightly higher damages then the other types of chains weapons so availability is one of the advantage of that.
(2) Early on you can just concentrate on chain weapon expertise skill to get more added damage to the type of said weapons.
chain weapons aren't good, they are there for flavor, and at specific points in the game they will be the best you have, but not overly long.
