Right now i think act 5 is the most buggy, but there is a big patch on thursday that should be fixing most of those issues. Id say you can defo play the game all the way right now. Im 120 hours in or so and in that time i've had to reload twice for characters going invisible, and that quest not completing in act 4, thats pretty much it. Honestly not as bad as it thought it would be. But ofc a lot of bugs seem to be pretty random and some people get hit more than others so take that into consideration, but its defo not a everyone wil get stuck at X or Y
As a result a lot of people downloaded low quality cam versions since it wasn't out in theaters here yet.
They watched a blurry, shakey low quality version of a movie they were really looking forward to enjoying.
Now if the the movie lived up to the hype is debatable.
Anyway, if you feel like Rogue Trader is something you'd enjoy, wait until it comes out in "theaters" because the state of the current version will absolutely dig into your enjoyment.
I'm sure much like Kingmaker and Wrath of the Righteous it'll turn into a good game after many patches and the Definitive version.
But as is it is for me at least very difficult to enjoy. Constantly second guessing myself with every thing that happens in the game.
"Did that bug out?"
"Was that supposed to happen?"
"Did those numbers add up in the combat log?"
"Did that just do something that'll break the entire playthrough later?"
If you don't really care and just want something to brainleessly eat a weekend, or longer depending on if you have to restart due to bugs. Then go for it.
If you think this is something you'd enjoy, absolutely wait for the ideal experience.
There was one companion sidequest that failed to start (Ulfar) and one that failed to close (Argenta) and one that failed to disapear from my log after I had that companion executed by the Inquisition (Yrliette). This being said, none of that prevented me from finishing the game. And in all cases, I was able to find thread here or on reddit with the information necessary to fix or work around the bugs with toybox (for example I started Ulfar quest with toybox).
So ymmv, the game is playable, especially if you are going to start now and play it like a normal person (ie not me who played it 11h/day on average since it came out). Patches are happening, stuff is getting better all the time, and the beginning of the game is pretty clean.
But of course, the whole thing is going to be much more robust in 6 months.
Up to you, but I would give it some time. Game is the definition of rushed out the door.
In my personal opinion, i actually think the game was rushed out early to get in before Christmas.
Acts 1, 2, and even 3 despite its weird beats, works and is overall pretty damn good. Fun story, fun mechanics, good amount of things to explore.
Act 4 and 5 it falls off a cliff, im talking like, the ending of game of thrones off a cliff bad. Its horribly riddled with bugs, and critical issues. The narrative of the story is all over the place and makes zero sense, the endings with out spoiling them, are really really bad in some cases, there is no new map exploration to be done once you get past act 2, act 4 unlocks like maybe 4 or 5 systems, with only 3 of them having something to do.
Act 4 and 5 feel like they are missing half of the content that is meant to be there.
Well that part is not going to get better with time I don't think. Act 5 is short but it's mostly about just wrapping everything up. Act 4 is 66% optional content, so of course if you just follow the story and don't hunt down all the rumors, it'll feel short, but I don't think that's a bug and/or that this is going to get "fixed". That's just the game as it is.
All in all though, I'm a completionist, but at 190h, this game took me longer than any other big game I played this year (zelda:tok, bg3, starfield, Wrath of the Righteous, Diablo4, etc). There are many critiques you can level at RT, but given the lower price point, I don't feel like "is lacking content" is a fair one.
My plan is to wait a few months and then come back midway through Chapter 3.
As others have said, probably nothing wrong with playing the first two chapters for now. They are in perfectly decent shape.
If people say that is the polished part of the game I shudder to think what the broken part will look like.
It’s better now but there are apparently still issues in act 4
