My first character was a criminal operative from the forge world. My second, a soldier from the fortress world, is a pyrokinetic with melting bullets.
This soldier is just a killing machine in the first act, suffice it to say that in the final battle, the boss had 3% armor left when he fell, and all the shuttles were intact. So no, the sniper operative has proven himself useful, but it's not nearly as crazy as the lawnmower that the psyker soldier is.
I'm getting up to +7 PR in Chapter 2 from Warp Conductor's Gloves alone on an unsanctioned psyker in a relatively short battle. Yes, it needs a few turns to get going, but with half of team being officers/grand strategists who feed your psyker with endless turns, and the Warp Reflex ring that gives you a free turn every time psychic phenomena or perils trigger, it's not a big issue.
Eyes of Joyeuse gives only +2 in Chapter 2 even if you take all dogmatic choices. And you might never even reach Conviction level 5 in the entire game, because Owlcat screwed up Conviction points just like they screwed up Trade Rep points (when you can never get enough to reach top level). So at best, Eyes will give you +4 PR by the final chapter.
I'm not saying Eyes are bad, they are GREAT. In fact, I agree with you that Eyes give a better baseline while Unsanctioned items scale better. I'm just saying that with the multi-officer setup, Warp Gloves, Warp Ring, and Cultist Hood the unsanctioned psyker gets so many attacks that the "scaling" happens fast enough to quickly outpace the Eyes.
You can go Sanctic even with Unsanctioned.
Agreed. Actually on my Heretical run I just toybox'd myself into an Unsanctioned Psyker after making the "deal with the devil" and defeating Theodora's ghost in Chapter 2. Felt like it was appropriate since I was obviously treading "unsanctioned" grounds by then.
Not to mention as a MC psyker, you're practically forced to play full Dogmatic for the +4-5 PR from Eyes of Joyeuse...
To whoever said "hey I can do 100 dmg per swing", yeah Idira can do 300 to 4 enemies by the middle of Act 2 so, you know, 100 dmg...
And let's not forget the 50hp heal for the entire group from Light of the Emperor if you pick up Sanctic.
To whoever said "yeah but there are some MC-exclusive colony buffs", yup, but then most of them are actually party-wide...
It's *really* annoying, the MC feels so weak as a Psyker compared to Idira and Heinrix.
Give me another school from the get go (or a quest to learn one for free), and give me a quest to become unsanctioned so I can actually make a *choice*.
Fair warning, the Examplar talents that allow you to become an unsanctioned psyker in a given school are NOT AVAILABLE for sanctioned psykers.
They do show up, but you can't pick them.
I'm not even sure *anyone* can pick them, because their requirement is "must be navigator AND must be navy officer AND must have PR0 AND [...]", so they might just be stuffed as hell at this point in time.
Owlcat has announced that the next big patch will focus on bugged talents.
Aye, however that is bad design, I should be able to decide I want to become unsanctioned and cut ties.
Xenos and Space Marines simply unable to get Psychic Awakening.
Sanctioned Psykers are already psykers and couldn't do it too.
Argenta is zealot, so you wouldn't be able to keep her in party after her Awakening. So all that's remain is Abelard and Jae.
To reduce confusion devs decided to limit Awakening to MC only.
But you do have more freedom with the MC.
You can select a homeworld and origin that work together instead of getting something random.
