Buff to MC Psyker
So, I'm not someone who thinks Psykers are weak, but...

Idira and Heinrix both have access to 2 schools from the start to MC's 1. Then, Idira has +1 PR from the get-go and potentially more from her gloves. And while not technically a Psyker, Cassia has her busted Navigator powers/passives. MC feels oddly...inferior.

Feels like we should at the very least start with access to 2 schools. A Homeworld that better fits Psyker abilities would also be welcome.

I agree with topixstarter, psykers need more settings when creating a character, such as Homeworld better.

Operative deals way more damage than soldier in the first act, soldier really needs arch mil to start shining. Even then, I don't think they deal more damage.
My first character was a criminal operative from the forge world. My second, a soldier from the fortress world, is a pyrokinetic with melting bullets.

This soldier is just a killing machine in the first act, suffice it to say that in the final battle, the boss had 3% armor left when he fell, and all the shuttles were intact. So no, the sniper operative has proven himself useful, but it's not nearly as crazy as the lawnmower that the psyker soldier is.

Tbh MC psyker is much better off being dogmatic and playing into a low perils strategy, you get up to +5 PR from Eyes of Joyeuse (+2 very early on) so while you don't scale as well as Idira you just have a better baseline.

I'm getting up to +7 PR in Chapter 2 from Warp Conductor's Gloves alone on an unsanctioned psyker in a relatively short battle. Yes, it needs a few turns to get going, but with half of team being officers/grand strategists who feed your psyker with endless turns, and the Warp Reflex ring that gives you a free turn every time psychic phenomena or perils trigger, it's not a big issue.

Eyes of Joyeuse gives only +2 in Chapter 2 even if you take all dogmatic choices. And you might never even reach Conviction level 5 in the entire game, because Owlcat screwed up Conviction points just like they screwed up Trade Rep points (when you can never get enough to reach top level). So at best, Eyes will give you +4 PR by the final chapter.

I'm not saying Eyes are bad, they are GREAT. In fact, I agree with you that Eyes give a better baseline while Unsanctioned items scale better. I'm just saying that with the multi-officer setup, Warp Gloves, Warp Ring, and Cultist Hood the unsanctioned psyker gets so many attacks that the "scaling" happens fast enough to quickly outpace the Eyes.

And going Sanctic also makes sense since sanctic scales off resolve and you can cheese resolve quite easily. Sanctic fits the Sanctioned Psyker theme perfectly and works great on MC.

You can go Sanctic even with Unsanctioned.

What I would like to see in addition is an Unsanctioned Psyker origin.

Agreed. Actually on my Heretical run I just toybox'd myself into an Unsanctioned Psyker after making the "deal with the devil" and defeating Theodora's ghost in Chapter 2. Felt like it was appropriate since I was obviously treading "unsanctioned" grounds by then.

I agree it's kind of an issue that whatever you specialize your MC in, he/she'll be inferior to the companion with same specs, or at best barely equal
Mine was sniper, quite good early on, now Yrliet can really call him a Mon keigh :steammocking: as she's so much deadlier

Not to mention as a MC psyker, you're practically forced to play full Dogmatic for the +4-5 PR from Eyes of Joyeuse...

To whoever said "hey I can do 100 dmg per swing", yeah Idira can do 300 to 4 enemies by the middle of Act 2 so, you know, 100 dmg...
And let's not forget the 50hp heal for the entire group from Light of the Emperor if you pick up Sanctic.

To whoever said "yeah but there are some MC-exclusive colony buffs", yup, but then most of them are actually party-wide...

It's *really* annoying, the MC feels so weak as a Psyker compared to Idira and Heinrix.
Give me another school from the get go (or a quest to learn one for free), and give me a quest to become unsanctioned so I can actually make a *choice*.

You can apparently become unsanctioned at some point, I haven't gotten that far but I've seen the talents for Psychic Awakening as an Exemplar, so I guess eventually you can match Idira. That said, I think an unsanctioned psyker origin could work.

On the brightside, you can go for Master Tactitian, which is something neither Idira nor Hendrix can do. As for Cassia... well Cassia's DD potential kind of drops off at higher levels. Her CC is still great but she can't really ramp up her damage as easily as a Psyker can.

Fair warning, the Examplar talents that allow you to become an unsanctioned psyker in a given school are NOT AVAILABLE for sanctioned psykers.

They do show up, but you can't pick them.
I'm not even sure *anyone* can pick them, because their requirement is "must be navigator AND must be navy officer AND must have PR0 AND [...]", so they might just be stuffed as hell at this point in time.
Owlcat has announced that the next big patch will focus on bugged talents.

That's by design. Psychic Awakening is ONLY for MC and only if MC not a sanctioned psyker already.

Aye, however that is bad design, I should be able to decide I want to become unsanctioned and cut ties.

???

Xenos and Space Marines simply unable to get Psychic Awakening.

Sanctioned Psykers are already psykers and couldn't do it too.

Argenta is zealot, so you wouldn't be able to keep her in party after her Awakening. So all that's remain is Abelard and Jae.

To reduce confusion devs decided to limit Awakening to MC only.

It's true that the main character starts out pretty gimpy as a psyker because you have a psy rating of 0 and unlike your companion psykers you lose out on a whole ability just to be able to pick up a second school.

The only real benefit you have as the main character is the ability to coordinate your homeworld with your class, and there isn't a homeworld choice that makes for particularly powerful psykers either.
The MC starts out pretty gimpy in general. Companions get extra stats and talents. The MC does not. If the MC wasn't mandatory there'd be no reason to bring them along.
Draken 29. des. 2023 kl. 19.27
Eh true.
But you do have more freedom with the MC.
You can select a homeworld and origin that work together instead of getting something random.
