*Probably.
Gameplay wise, I think it's because if he wasn't a Soldier you'd have a base of 4 Warriors and only 1 Soldier for your possible companion pool and they didn't want Argenta to be "necessary" for players.
For lore reasons, certainly a neophyte Space Marine would be a Warrior, but the more experienced ones take up the more ranged heavy roles (in a reverse from standard chapter behaviour, irrc). So Soldier might make more sense for a more gray haired wolf.
warrior is less of a damage dealer more of a bullet sponge. It'd feel like a weird pick for a SM to be sitting around taking it when their whole thing is peace thru superior firepower.
Kinda feel warrior is the worst starting class anyway.
But the big thing warrior gets is assassin. They are by far the best dmg class. However ulfar is to big for the maps and his pixels get stuck everywhere so you can't move him.
But arch militant can make the best tank. Ulfar just stands there next to 10k HP boss. No dmg.
The problem with ulfar is his trash equipment. He can't use gear. So Argenta is always the better burster she can use 3 pieces that buff rate of fire.
I think of you go AoE master tact hits way harder cause they get hundreds of stacks.
I bring ulfar all the time. I use him just to get the enemy stuck. They get stuck on his pixels too.
Honestly I don't need him to dmg. I burst n kick to get cautious stacks. My operative assassin is primary dmg dealer. I think Idira even better then xeno sniper. Cause she makes the best operative since we level her up from 1.
Ulfar can never be good at melee cause his stupid 3d model can't move. So by the time he is in position to attack everyone is dead or further away.
That is the busted thing about ulfar. Like how they drop a companion that can't move cause it glitches every time.
He can't even move out of combat
Total shame he is not a warrior arch militant honestly that would have been more his speed.
Even an Operative or Officer would fit in perfectly, since there are SMs that specialize in command or assassination tactics in every single major chapter. The whole point of a Space Marine is that he is the not only the most physically and mentally apt soldier possible, but also the most adaptable and flexible to complete every possible type of mission.
It would make a lot more sense if the space wolf favored melee, especially when you consider its hinted at that Ulfar has the curse of the wulfin as well.
They needed a vaulting system. Like climb over that 12 inch crate man you are a space wolf
