Tip: don't develop your colonies until Chapter 4
Apart from the fact you permanently lose all colony related buffs on Chapter 3, several of the mutually exclusive Tier 2-3 options are superseded by a superior Tier 4-5 option that you can't see yet.

Yip, chapter 4 is colony time - otherwise it feels pretty empty. I explored most of the galaxy in chapter 2 and did all the projects available as well. Wasn't much left to do in chapter 4. :steamsad:
Welp, just got to the end of Chapter 2 so that's gonna be fun. xD

They don't re-apply? Shouldn't the tier 2-3 stack with the 4-5s?

What I mean is that you'll get a Tier 3 that offers you +2 to security in all colonies, for example, and means foregoing a good option, when there's a +4 later on that's got worse alternatives. Or there's a particular piece of kit you'll get that's got a superior option in a higher tier and that you'll be sacrificing a bonus for. Or there's a small quantity of a resource as a mutex option when there's a non-mutex Tier 4 that gives you more of that resource.

If you're going to metagame like this might as well just look up the Colony projects on the wiki and decide what to build earlier on. No reason to delay building anything

this why the hell would you go 3 chapters without any of the ship upgrade colony items?? Sounds awful

It's more like 1 chapter. Chapter 3 doesn't really even have the ship, and chapter 1 is before you unlock the ability.

As for tier 4 upgrades superseding tier 2s, as far as I can tell you can fit NEARLY all the non-exclusive upgrades onto every colony. None of the tier 4s are exclusive of tier 2. So if you play through "normally" and max out all your colonies in act 2, you will have to skip between 0-1 upgrades per colony because they are full. It's pretty easy to find a tier 4 upgrade that is either inconsequential or downright bad and just skip that.

Still would be nice to get to see that from the start. In part, vendors suffer from the same problem too.
Even if you technically don't really need any sort of optimization, even on unfair.
I'd like to have that information from the get-go, not regret my decisions dozens of hours later.
And "needing" a 3rd party ressource is just bad design.

the only option you should have for colony is the one for the chirgeons medpack so during chapter 3 you can easely fix your trauma

Didn't lose any of those buffs in chapter 3.

Supposedly you can still queue the projects to build via the project tab even if your building slots are filled (those little squares).

I'm already regretting a ton of colony choices I made in Act 2.

Yeah you can still build from the project screen. Not sure if bug or intended.

I'm assuming intended. I think max profit factor is around 170 and you basically need all the projects to get there.

It's pretty sad that they were withholding (IMO) later chapters from beta because they lacked content and polish. They knew they had to release it now in order to take advantage of the holiday sales. Releasing this as Early Access wouldn't have help them finacially. i guess we just have to hope that they are withholding content for the Season Pass and, that in a year we might have a completed game.

i fully agree the colony management needs a total rework it need more options it needs to be made far more clear and easy to understand also all options should be shown even if you cant build something before act 4 it should be clearly shown so you can plan towards it and lastly there should be a delete option so you can totally restart your planet build i loved the building system in kingmaker and i think something like that would be way better.
