Warp Travel
So what are some strategies people are using if they have to back track thorough explored systems? Once you explore a region is there a way to get more points to mitigate the dangers of warp travel? I'm not suggesting that warp travel should be without danger, that's part of the setting, but it sucks when I need to backtrack through an systems I have already explored and can't generate more points to mitigate danger on at least some of the legs unless I've hoarded points. Also, while I don't need details does this change once you've explored most of the map? Or are you stuck late game with warp travel getting more rather than less dangerous because you've explored most of the map?

I just spent the points creating one main highway to traverse the map quickly.

The branches I don't care about.

keep the systems at yellow at best, don't make them all green, it's a fool's game.

Build paths to link your colony worlds together make those green.

doing that gets you fairly quick navigation.

as for getting more points after you've scoured the map, there is a few "warp events" that can net you extra navigator points. and they can happen multiple times. so you aren't ever truly stuck if you "over spend" just may have to spend some time flying around yellow/orange/red paths till you get more.

Fastest way is to create new routes. This costs three points and creates red pathways. You change the color by investing a couple more points. But it is very much worth it as new pathways can cut down needed jumps tremendously.

You want at least some yellows and red lanes just off the beaten path for easy cargo, exp and navigator insight farm (which is a bit meta gamey because it still seems like scrap is a finite resource. So you have to watch out how much damage the hull takes over the game farming things. One time travelled routes aren't even worth looking at for nav insight.

You want to make some default lanes green in between colonies and well traversed areas. If you have meta knowledge of future map locations and backtracking this helps a lot, controlling your encounters completely.

Then when you have tons of points you make green super freeways like Schlumpsha mentioned between colonies directly via creating entirely new lanes for 3 points, then making them green for 3 points.

If you don't mind abusing a bug, the Dargonus Emporium colony project can effectively get you infinite Navigator Insight because it changes the 3 insight cost from creating a new warp route into a -1, giving you an insight effectively.
