Is This A Git Gud Thing?
I'm on Chapter 2 ... Von Valancius Palace mission (Blades in the Void) ... I fought through first two waves and got to the palace and just .... what the actual .... ? There is no way to win this fight ... and the Khymeras are immune to damage?? No matter what I hit them with it just says 0 .... is this a bug? There are so many enemies on the screen ... surrounding you. No way to start in any other location. This game .... I'm just at a loss ...

if you are hitting for no dmg u can just inspect enemies to check for armor/deflection and abilities/talents or the dmg log to see how its being calculated

I did. I didn't see anything that should be deflecting damage on them. I thought it was a bug to be honest. Some xenos I can't hit even though they are standing in front of me and I don't mean a miss. I mean ... just nothing happens.
It kinda is.

Mobs are not immune to damage, but:
- high dodge
- high armor
- high deflection
- special talents (conversion)

These can give you trouble. You can get rid of armor and dodge with an operative who uses Show Weakness on the target. Getting rid of deflection is only possible by special talents - I think I saw one somewhere. You also reduce dodge by high Perception.

Some monsters and NPCs cannot be debuffed, like the xenos who keep their 95% dodge despite debuffs.

You should have strong damage dealers and Cassia. Officers are good in general and having two on the team is great. Argenta is my main damage dealer, she blew away the endboss in chapter 3 before he could act, and that guy had many hundreds hitpoints. You can use flamers and grenades for AE damage - I gave my whole team Grenadier for that. Yes, grenades are not all that great, but it is a free attack that can finish a wounded mob or debuff/hinder a couple.

And due to my experiences in chapter 3, I suggest you get It does not Die and Unnatural Vitality with Cassia, since hitpoints are in scant supply. The tentacle mobs there killed each character they could reach in one attack sequence, since I had not taken them.

They ignore every second instance of damage. At least in my playthrough they had that ability. Try killing beastmasters first, they can buff them(not sure).
Khymeras immune to every second damage i believe, so fish the damage immune with your lower damage party member

Look in your log. It says the damage was reduced to 0 due to an effect they have. If you right click them, you'll see all the effects and specifically, the effect that makes them ignore every other hit (1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, etc.). So you need to make sure your damage dealers are always hitting them on the 2nd, 4th, 6th hits.
You should be doing this fight very late in the act, and be around level 30 more or less. I assure you, it's very very very winnable, even on unfair, and with no need to optimize builds or anything. But it is a very tactical game which makes you learn the rules and devise strategies. If you don't want to do stuff like read enemies descriptions and effects, go over the log every time you miss and see why, or read through the talent list before picking one just to make sure you're getting the one that best suits your build -- then you will have a hard time beating this game.
Dont let the game fool you into believing this is a cover squad combat game like say Jagged Alliance 3.

You will need 2 or 3 solid damage dealers by end of Act 2 that can wipe 400-900hp out; Whether 1 enemy or total on multiple enemies.

You need 1 buffer and 1 debuffer. I use Cassia as a AoE Nuker but all her stuff just naturally debuffs. I got 2 bursters that hit for big dmg. Jae I went master tact so she can buff dmg, hit points and resolve while still giving turns out with officer talent.

That is my main 4. Often bring some kind of operative/assassin who can debuff and snipe.
Or another Burster.

I usually always bring Abelard. I kinda need his athletic checks as I didnt set anyone else up to do it.

I honestly dont think Abe does much in combat. He can tank small things in mobs. But certainly not any boss that burst or snipers. IF its single shot or melee he can handle. But 2 or 3 bursts or 1 from a boss he will die.

I kinda think Vanguard was overrated and I should have made Abe an Arch Militant just as tanky and could have actually done big time dmg.
I feel like my team isn't high enough but also there are no more quests to do except that one so ... I guess this is where I am supposed to be. I do have 2 officers and Cassia but I blew through my grenades and health in the first two waves before even getting there. I had no idea there would be so much hell at the end ... I think I may have to start the entire mission over at this point. I can't go back to the ship to heal and everyone is really wrecked.

Thank you for the info on the Khymeras I didn't read that anywhere. I was looking to see if they had some special skill but I guess I missed it. When I killed the beastmasters its like they became even more aggressive.

Also on the second turn they just charged at my team and took out 2 people with one swipe so I didn't really know what to do. That's why I feel maybe my team isn't high enough?

Jae is my master tact, I have Cassia, Abelard is someone I always bring. Argenta ais Arch Militant for me. I don't think I have any damage dealer that does that kind of damage tho ... I need to maybe respec Abelard .....

If all else fails you can always lower the difficulty. I usually play on a custom difficulty for instance and managed the fight. It wasn't easy, but I managed.

My team was Officer/Tactician (MC), Argenta (soldier/BH), Pasqal (OP/Strategist), Abelard (warrior/Arch Militant), Heinrix (warrior/assassin) and the eldar (ops/BH). Basically, only Heinrix, Argenta and Abelard were left standing in the end.
Jae is a good master tact. She can buff resolve, dmg and temp HP plus still give voice of command MP and AP from her officer tree. Certainly not as a good as an officer merc but its all we got.

Argenta I actually went Master Tact as the dmg bonuses are insane she is one of the people that can burst like 500-900hp at end of Act 2.

Cassia I went Master Tact but 100% Navigator talents however just being Master Tact makes her AoE abilites do insane dmg.

My Mc is Area Dmg dealer Master Tact what else. Again insane dmg.

This completely revolves around resolve and momentum, So your buffers buff resolve or if you got free Ap on your dmg guys. All the mast tacts take the +1 momentum for every 1 momentum gained giving you a total of 5 pts every time 1 point is gained cause its 1+4 =5.
5 points = 1 stack. Each stack gives you 4% dmg. Talent to give 2x stacks per enemy with most combat having 20+ enemies. I often start with 250 stacks which is 1000% dmg.

Argenta you either need to spec into Dark Xeno weapons of use -Recoil items then she can do damage.

I speced Abe as Vanguard I actually think I should have Arch Militant I kinda think they are actually better at defense and can really hit. As a Vanguard he basically has 0 offense.

I think the 2 best Snipers are Idira and Pasqal cause you get them low level and can completely pick anything you want giving them the strongest debuffs too. Yrielt operative I feel isnt optimal. She ends up hitting harded just cause of weapons. So snipers take both xeno weapon prof.

snipers I go assassin. I will say Pasqal is better with plasma weapons but I guess I call him a plasma sniper. While Idira is true sniper.
Gitz kan nevah get gud, datz why deyz gitz!
I'm running my MC as a melee damage dealer Assassin with Abelard as my tank Vanguard. Cassia and Argenta do damage and crowd control ( they are amazing ) Pascal as a sniper and debuff with expose weakness. The last party member I switch between Yrilet and Henrix. Make Cassia a Tactician and she always goes first and when she goes first you automatically win all combat.

Check out this guy, I've been following his builds, they are very good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xD96SJvM0mU

Keep in mind, this video is for the prerelease so some of the talent requirements are different.
