Plasma melta question
Do I understand correctly that no plasma gun can rapid fire in this game ? Also is melta just a high armour penetration flamer in this ?

Melta weapons are literally heat rays that blast people with the power of the Sun, concentrated in 1 beam. They are mostly anti-vehicle weapons.

Plasma are general anti-armour weapons, that fire bolts of superheated gas that penetrates armour with the blast, and cooks whatever is underneath to a fine crisp.

I mean I know how they work in 40k but in tabletop you can burst fire plasma guns , in game you can’t but I only found one so far ? Was wondering if melta mechanically just works similar to flamer as a template weapon .

Rapid fire? no, but thbey have a blast and beam mode.

IMO plasma is the best all-purpose weapon, its single shot is great and has lots of pen, its blast is great for AoE, and the beam is great if things are lined up.

Haven't tested Meltas, but from the attack type in the menu it looked like they use a similar attack pattern to flamers (as you suspected).
Meltas have single shot or Blast like a Flamer.

So is melta just a better flamer or does flamer have better range and aoe ? Vs melta dmg and pen ?

Flamer will burn the target, and also flamer has a much wider area of attack. ALSO flamer has bigger range.

Interesting so melta does not cause burn , might get my SoB a heavy flamer then, thanks

Are specialisation perks in either worth it though ? They don’t seem as good as melee perks

So. These are teh standard attack types per weapon type.

Plasma:
-Single Shot
-Overcharge AoE (like a Grenade)
-Overcharge + damage

Melta:
-Single Shot
-Cone AoE attack

Flamer:
-Line AoE attack
-Cone AoE attack

Essentially, a Melta has the Single Shot of the Plasma weapon, and the Cone AoE of the Flamer, and functions like a hybrid of both types, for practical purposes.

Honestly nah, the bonus they give are not really worth it.

It doesn't rapid fire it does an aoe burst that hits multiple targets.

plasma guns aren't assault rifles and they never have been.

i remember back in 2nd ed warp spider web spinners used a flamer template, but in 3rd ed they made them "rapid fire" just to represent hitting multiple targets because having an entire unit with flame templates in that edition would be cumbersome and probably a bit broken. But changing the rules to "rapid fire" didn't change the lore and turn them into assault rifles.

Sometimes rules are abstractions.

This take in game feels more like a plasma cannon as opposed to semi automatic plasma rifle we had in 40k

40K never had anything close to semi-auto Plasma Rifles.
They have always been more like shotguns, but with slugs, not birdshot.

i do actually agree that the way it is represented in this game is a bit off, though.

The plasma gun was always represented as firing a penetrating beam. it should fire as a line like the melta weapons do, but if they did that i guess they wouldn't have their own identity.
