It's that, or they misunderstood something in the game data, or there's more to it than just completing those certain quests (which can already be done in game basically). It's very common from my own research into buggy stuff for people to just leave everyone hanging without actually confirming what they found in detail. Which can end up being true, but because they just didn't care enough or didn't want to go through the hassle to show their work, they just leave it be. :/
When you look at dialogue previews for planet stuff there's usually etudes activating to add resources or add new pickup/explorable etc. One might need to find those etudes/triggers whatever via toy box by searching something like "meltingtheice."
After looking at the planet pre-melting it shows "IceMelting_q" etude or quest started when you go through the dialogue.
So I went to Search and Pick and searched that.
There are about a dozen findings. I quickly messed around with two loot flags for icemelting that one could start.
The first one after activating it and keeping it at 0 counter, buggered the planet and allowed you to rescan it showing nothing thereafter (for planet UI).
Reloaded (or maybe i used locked the flag again can't remember... from 3 minutes ago lol) and started the next loot flag that can be started. Lo and behold after clicking the planet a new explorable icon showed up. After clicking the new explorable icon a Weapons extractor location appears that you can extract and mine. For me it adds 7 weapons.
So another situation of someone just not being specific enough to help anyone or help/clarify the issue lol. They were telling the truth though and I guess, got us to look at it more closely so there's that. :)
Edit: Ok completing the Rumour manually with toy box (which I guess it part of the problem, can't be done in-game and is why we still have the means to go through melting dialogue over and over)m THEN adding the first icemelting loot flag, makes 3 loot icons show up on the planet that cannot be explored by me (I will try some more stuff). My suggestion after doing all this stuff is to just do the quest for the achievement, then roll back to a previous save since it's obvious bugged and not completed. Also bug report the above.
You don't need psyker background for the bottomless pit. Without it you don't dominate it but instead follow along with a number of additional checks - the path I followed was where I ended up eating a part of myself (if you eat any other "person" then you'll find the real-life person outside of the pit is now gone forever).
It's still bugged because there was no patch to possibly fix it this week. Hopefully it will be fixed in the patch coming early this month. Anyways to summarize the issues keeping this quest from being fully implemented:
1. There's two loot flags for the quest that do not activate after finishing the melting contract. One loot flag is for a Weapons resource and the other loot flag is for 3 caches. Both flags need to be activated by Toy Box options to show up in the current game build on the Planet.
2. The Rumor itself for Melting the Ice does not finish when you complete the contract. It looks like it's supposed to be completed because when you complete it manually with Toy Box, the planet icon for the melting event finally disappears. Also the 3 loot caches (if you enabled their flag) will only appear on the Planet once that Rumor is completed too. This is probably because the loot caches and the initial event icon take up the same event "slot" on the planet so the Rumor hides them.
3. The 3 caches even if you get them to show up, will have no actual loot. It looks like this was either not completed, or the other 8ish flags I noticed in Search and Pick are what add the loot via scripts, and can't be done with Box.
4. The Weapon resource shows up regardless of the Rumor being completed if you activate the loot flag for it with Toy Box. You can properly extract the weapons from it with an extractor with no issues.
Now this whole thing may be a case in which all of the above was intentionally cut, and we just get an achievement as a reward only for release. I doubt that because of the buggy Rumor and that in of itself, may have caused them to overlook the rest of the quest and not see that it was incomplete or mistakenly forgotten.
The Melting the Ice event was fixed in the June 26ish 2024 Patch. The contract properly advances the event on the planet and we can now decide to pillage it (cargo) or report it for reclamation (unlocks an extractor site for Weapon resource).
Took them half a year, damn, must have been a really difficult bugfix.
