What's turning cultists into chaos spawn?
Mechanically speaking; I get what's happening from a lore perspective. Occasionally, the game will swap a regular old cultist out with a chaos spawn, and I'm wondering if it's totally random or if there's something I can do to influence it.
Is it based on veil degradation?

When it happens to me Veil tend to be high. But I havent noticed anything spesific really.
No idea about the enemy's use of the veil.

I just know that you have to be careful with your own use of it.

Veil slider, bottom left.

I don't think that you can stop the enemy from doing anything unless you kill them before they kill you.

Veil degradation is high, the gods take notice, and give one cultist too many "blessings".
OK. So no known way to influence it? I've played the last fight in the Electrodynamic Cinobium a couple times and sometimes I get 2 or 3 spawn and sometimes none.
It's hasn't been a huge deal yet; just want to understand all the game's systems.
Thanks!
From what I know, some fights its tied to mechanical objectives. The Warp Lenses in the Cultist Base on Rykis Minoris seems to cause it.

Otherwise I think Cultists have an Ability called 'Blessings of the Dark Gods', or something like it. I noticed when right clicking on the cultists on Footfall. Seems like it has a chance to turn them into Chaos Spawn.

Nice. I'll keep any eye out for that.
Thanks!

You can influence it by keeping Veil degradation down. However, some fights are literally on a timer to when a Chaos Spawn will... well, spawn.

Kill them first seems to work. Of course, several of the fights I've encountered with cultists like that also have other enemies that are even more in need of dying quickly. I suspect that's the idea... either you focus down the cultists while something else is beating on you, or you beat down the real threat first and then have to deal with chaos spawn.
yeah if you notice some time the cultist have blessing of the dark gods buff, that give them random benefit per turn. some time they get down an pray, some time they get a buff, and some other times they turn in to daemond.
Shoot the cultists who have fallen to their knees.

I have read elsewhere on this forum that you get the same amount of xp for such encounters no matter how you go about clearing them (meaning summons or transformations don't give any extra xp for you to potentially farm). However, I haven't tested it myself.

yeah same would think that's the case.

but i did test a few none combat solutions and some of them gave more xp... compared to just killing everyone

It's part of Dark Prayer - a 10% chance with each turn's start that they turn into a Chaos Spawn.
It's why I keep Cassia in the party since I have two active Psyckers in the party Heinrix and my RT. Cassia has an ability that lets you take out a chunk of the veil degradation. But some encounters, the veil will never go below the threshold so you have to be careful the entire fight. And yeah Dark Prayer, is your keep an eye out for spawns warning. Ended up fight 4 spawns in one fight on Rykard Minoris or whatever it's called while trying to escape the planet. Good thing Argenta was insane back then she practically killed them all by herself.
