Discover the whereabouts of Edelthrad possible to complete?
In the prologue you receive a quest sub-task to discover the whereabouts of Edelthrad, and then moments later a scripted event occurs and this sub-task is marked as having failed. Is there any way to get around this and succeed with the sub-task? If not, I'm wondering why the game marks it as a quest item if there is no chance of completing it. It is messing with the completionist in me that I'd be given a formal item in my quest log if I cannot complete it. I don't recall this ever happening in other Owlcat games.

Yes this is exactly what I'm talking about. As soon as you gain control of the ship depending on which places you go to first on the map you will be unable to do certain things in the other places and that includes potentially finding Edelthrad.

Unless its somehow some other bug there will be other mutually exclusive scenarios with quests like this in the game you will have to deal with where doing an option may fail another option or another quest or the order you do things in may alter the other quests.

Its not, he's referring to the prologue. As far as I know, you always fail the quest because of the spy masters treachery, as it prevents you from following through with Theodora's command until you deal with more immediate problems.

IIRC the way this works is you will always fail part of the Cassia space station chain or part of the Prison exploration depending on which one you go to first. Theres ways around it but it involves getting to very specific quest points on each location and then bailing out and going to the other.

Not sure if this is the same part of the game. I haven't heard of the Cassia Space station or the Prison yet. This is very early in the game, right after Theodora tells me to go with the Master of Whispers, Voigtvir, to look for the other heir named Edelthrad. Almost immediately after she gives me that order something happens (trying not to spoil) that causes this quest subtask to fail. I'm somewhat assuming as this point that there is no way to avoid it.

You failed this part of the quest to find Edelthrad because of certain action you take, right before crossing the bridge to the last fight. It relate to a choice you need to make, I wont spoil it since I dont know if you want spoiler.

Ignore the clowns replying.

No, you can't succeed at it. You will always fail it, it's normal.

Oh my bad I'm getting the NPC names mixed up.

You can only get Edelthrad with a different dialogue choice than you made when you found the fire blocking your path.

There is no fire blocking my path. It seems like you are referring to something that happens later in the game. It has been confirmed by a couple of folks that at this early point in the game you are scripted to fail this task. There are no decisions. I went back and replayed it. It seems like there is clearly no option to pass this particular sub-quest, which happens like 5 - 10 minutes into the prologue.

Thanks. Makes sense. I went back and replayed to double check, and there is literally no chance to make any choices from the point Theodora gives you the task and you this item is marked as failed in the journal.

When you reach the point where you have your very first choice if you want a dogmatic, iconoclast or heretic option. This is the point when you are blocked by a firewall and theodora talks to you. Your choice at this point will make your quest fail or succede.
Iustitia-sama Dec 17, 2023 @ 5:10pm
The dogmatic choice there allows you to meet up with Edelthrad, fails with the other two choices.

And it is hard to know whether these tasks failing are a bug or by design.

Telerion, it's the earliest of early and they tried to explain it to the OP but he wasn't getting it. At all. I don't know how or why, cuz you only fail by choosing 2 or 3 options (Heretical or Iconoclast) and he kept saying there's no such thing. It had nothing to do w post prologue content.

Yeah, it frustrated me as well. I wanted to do as much of the game as possible without having to look anything up, but that lasted all of 15 minutes or so...

Very frustrating it was scripted this way. I thought I did something wrong too, and wasted time trying to run all over / reloading a save, etc. to see if I could do something different at that point... but no it's an automatic fail.
