Blaster psykers... either don't really exist, or were so poorly implemented it's not really worth doing on any difficulty higher than daring.
Blaster psykers are amazing and can be top dps as quick as chapter 1, but require building in specific ways for it to be strong quickly. Outside of sqntic builds, psyker builds require some pre planning.
What I want to do is use my brain to set people on fire with better effect than a Bic Lighter.
That's kind of a bummer, I was so psyched (pun intended) to be able to play a psyker who would focus on bringing the pain. I think I'm going to play a soldier gunbunny. Argenta can sling sniper gear, I'll use medium-close range stuff. That lasgun you get early is *tasty*
But they are great at buffin/debuffing from the start, only the crazy damage needs some time to get online (i mean, a sanctioned PR 0 psyker that has mastered a single power isn't exaclty alpha - he can get there, but at the start its a archetype that can do only the bare minimum really)
Yeah. It took me my sweet time to understand too, if anything the BASIC pyromancer skill should be more straightforward, people EXPECT a fire DOT to be a DPS skill, and it's not.
Psykers are definitely useful, but they take time to really start coming online (around level 10). If you're thinking of creating a typical fireball chucking wizard, it's just not that well implemented as of yet that I can see. They *can* blast so building one that way will work, but in my personal experience other archetypes do it better (though I play on harder difficulties where winning comes down to more than just raw DPS).
Ironically on unfair it loops back around to dps (and actions a turn ofc).
TBH needing a single item AND alignment to make a subclass (suborigin, whatever) shine yells bad balance.
