Second Archetype skills
I'm having difficulty using these, I find the action economy just doesn't make a lot of them worthwhile - the assassin ones in particular, the bounty hunter ones seem great on a sniper.

Also it seems some of them simply don't do anything or are extremely situational.

Does anyone have a set of go to talents or avoid talents? I think I may have screwed myself somewhat by selecting incorrect archetypes. I made pascal an assassin which has not been useful at all, compated to Yritel as a bounty hunter where its very good.

The vanguard one, I barely use any talents, i'd rather get a charge in, risk an attack of opportunity and then do some damage

I actually use Pasqal as an assassin and he does quite nicely. Yes, he's perhaps THE most AP-hungry character available given just what he gets from his Operative/Background kit, but I built him with a looot of move speed, which coupled with Assassin lets him zip around to lock down ranged enemies in melee, or chunk heavy dudes for a lot of damage by hitting the openings. And of course, Death Whisper is a free attack, can't complain about that even if the damage isn't huge on it's own.

The most important things for Pasqal though, if you ask me, is getting him Tactical Knowledge as an active ability, and that one passive Operator talent the name of which escapes me right now that reduces his damage taken from enemies that have exploits on them to help bulk him (and the rest of the team) up. I'd probably bring him for Tactical Knowledge and his out-of-combat skills a lot of the time even if he didn't contribute a pretty mean swing of a power axe.

As for Vanguard, I find a few things there are nice. The parry-counter ability, coupled with Taunting Scream, makes Abelard into an amusing little blender as enemies rush him, take a swing, then get pulped. And Wall of Rockrete/upgraded into Wall of Ferrocrete is nice to throw out during niché situations such as when you find yourself up excrement creek lacking a paddle for lack of cover during a battle, or dealing with some excessively powerful mook that's out to nail your characters to a wall.

Like the dark eldar turret ambush.. Ugh.

Actually it's reversed. Bounty Hunter is garbage and sniper-Assassin is OP.

As sniper your task is to kill boss & most tough enemies in first turn. BH don't have anything to buff his damage against target, only buffs AFTER killing it. And when most tough enemies are died those buffs are irrelevant - you're going to kill remaining trash in any way.

true that, I've built him to be a boss killer, only problem is there isn't that many tanky bosses.

Eldar gurl shoots 3 times a turn thanks to being an assassin

Maybe not, but when they do appear it's good to have ways to deal with them. And when they aren't present, Pasqal can still mow dudes down with his 2AP aoe swing on his axe.

Also made some edits to my earlier post to offer further thoughts.

I got Argenta to be pretty broken with arch-militant.. Run and gun, wildfire and both momentum abilities can net her loads of attacks in a single turn using the heavy bolter.

No? Assassin have 2 abilities that clearly state they're working with range of weapon you're using.

It only appears for close combat for Pascal since he has all his weapons switched on for some reason and it defaults to melee. On others it works for ranged builds
