Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader

Hey Developer, is the space battle against the Drukhari in Odaenathus XI some kind out of season April Fool's?
Just wanting to confirm that as I get murdered in wave 3 all the time besides the fact that my ship is equipped with the best I can get in Act 2, done all other space battles (and won ofc), maxed out Navy reputation + bought everything/used what is usefull.

Yes, I'm using the abilities their trickery lets me use.

And yes, the hull is upgraded (252hp) and repaired.

I also have the escort, which is only usefull to be slaugthered in turn one by the ship that can't reach me anyways.

I mean, I get it: The fight is meant to be hard, the textbox beforehand says as much... Yet with all that described above? The ships hit way harder than their bigger cruiser cousins a system over.

Or might it simply be that I play on Daring dificulty and not on Games Journalist?

ok there at max 8 ships, and torpedo can one shot them (spam it ). And they don't spawn near the ships but a at set place...
Look I'm not the best at space combat, I'm not bad...but I'm not a pro at this. I see people talking how torp's can kill em fast...but that is every other round and that is hopefully if they don't outmaneuver you. I can usually get at least one. But I'm not fast enough to kill both before reinforcements. Guess since I can't keep up, this isn't a fight I can win, lol.
Devs really had the clown makeup on for this fight.

My hull is maxed out to 280 hull points.
Why are people talking about torpedos, when the real problem with this fight is 2 enemies just spawn out of nowhere near your ship AND they act right this instant, doing 4 shots at you, which kills you like 9/10 times even if your hull is full and you have shields up?
It's so dumb that enemies can spawn near you and act at the same time giving you no chance to even do anything

I've liked space battles so far, but this is just bs

There is not really a problem - the trick is to level the own ship in a way it can deal with the ships. Silent Running perk helps a lot. As does the escort ship.

I cleared the whole chapter 2 and fought every space battle as preparation for the space battle in the main story - which was a breeze after beating the patrols in Odaenathus XI

Wait until you have to fight 6 of DE light cruisers, each with bomber squadrons at once ;) it can happen in act 2 at one of your dynastic worlds

Happened to me in Act 4 and I am fully upgraded. They are 252HP each. Even fully upgraded I got no shot at it.

Sure you can cheese it make them chase you while continually launching torpedoes and eventually you will win and take 0 damage.

But 1st it takes frakking forever. 2nd its frakkin CHEESE.

that isnt space combat making them chase you and move torpedoes in. its frakkin pointless and boring.

I got all gold gear on my ship I cant use cause those 6 ships can even kill a fully upgraded ship in 1 turn.

and yeah its just a stupid colony event.

i reloaded. i dont feel like doing it. cause the only way to win is to cheese torpedoes.

And people are saying ship combat is FUN?????????? HOW not all of it. Most is complete cheese
Probably one of the dumbest space battle ever. And its right at the beginning of Act II. I dunno what devs are smoking but i want some of that.

I did this battle countless times for a few hrs. I thought it was 4 waves of 2 each but i end up getting 6-7 waves, it just keep spawning. I dunno if its a bug or what. I'm using the torpedo cheese ultimate with the warp attack method. Its not guaranteed win method cos the dark eldar ships are fast and the reinforcements always spawn near you and immediately get a turn.

I've heard people say if you kill the 2 starting enemy ships the battle ends but it didn't work for me, the next round 2 more ships spawn. Eventually i won but under strange circumstances. I was on round 2, with 4 enemy ships that were tightly packed in pairs. i torpedoed all 4 and the battle ends. No idea why, feels like it bugged out but whatever i took the win.

This encounter feels buggy as hell and poorly situated in the player progression path. This should be spawned in late Act III or IV.

To be honest, the basic idea behind the mechanics is fun and has potential.
It's everything else that s*cks.

The problem is it is such a small minor part of the game that obviously sucked up enormous resources and time.

I could live with it as is terms of game development. But it is a bad time and project management decision.

I honestly think Ship combat and Colony Management and even Ulfar should have been completely scrapped. Ulfar could have easily have been a future DLC. Plus honestly all of the > lvl 16 companions have the worst builds ever. Jae is an awful officer but she is the only 1 we got since making Cassie a full officer is crazy since Navigator is its own class.

Owlcat refuses to get better at time and project management. That is why the release had thousands of bugs on Day 1.

No one expects a grand cRPG to be bug free but several thousand bugs is lunacy.

That is my big problem with ship combat.

Stop saying "scrap this, scrap that, cut it out etc."
Devs did both systems before already, so cutting it out is literally throwing away years of features development.

Ship combat is DEEPLY flawed, yes, but its quite salvageable with a simple number tweaks like spawning enemies further away and fixing turn order.
Colony management adds "sovereign" flavour to the game, allowing you to play a ruler to some extent.

Otherwise you would cut these two things, then new ones, until you get conventional, sterile, safe run-of-the-mill game that big publishers like to release every damn year.
There is no innovation without experimentation and pain.
Devs should fix things, not cut them.

I thought that is a bug lol
I just found this battle, I won but I'm not sure if I ended the fight early. I got a neato dorsal weapon is there anything else of note?
Very nearly quit the game at this point. I found this battle too early and had no torpedos, and only about half the ship upgrades. Most recent autosave was from 3 systems ago and about 1-2 hours ago. I've gone to several other systems that had more managable ship combat and assumed this would be similar. Failed and reloaded 6 or 7 times before saying fck it and ignored the system altogether. Went back and redid a few hours of progress, which wasn't even remotely enjoyable to do the same thing over again. Most of the rest of the game has been fun, even the ship combat. But this is just difficult without any fun. Enemies spawning and immediately shooting you with weapons that mostly bypass your shields seems impossible to deal with if you havent already beaten every other space fight there is. Hopefully this isn't a common event, because it would kill the game enough for me to drop it regardless of the story.
I personally didn't really struggle with the ship combat that much until act 5 where the enemy suddenly started dealing 3/4 of my ships hp through shields
