Ulfar is really underwhelming
Kinda disappointed with how underwhelming this character is. Really expected more and kinda sucks he is stuck as a soldier and arch militant.

Personally i think he would have been better served as a warrior, and then let us pick either vanguard or arch militant. Anyone else feel this follower is really lacking despite being a freaking space marine?

Wait what, you can't respec his second archetype?

Im not sure what stats and such an actual Astartes would have in this system, but i understand that Ulfar would make everyone else merely invalid if he had these.

how do you get him?
Khloros Dec 15, 2023 @ 9:15am
You cant respect his second arch type thats the problem

You get him in act 3.

I mean his stats are great, but its a matter of his class choice for him kinda suck. He is an arch militant soldier which is a role filled all to well by argenta already. He just seems far better served to be a warrior or at the very least a vanguard.

Download the toy box mod and you can respec him entirely.

At least you get him in chapter 3. That is relatively early. Some others are only accessible in chapter 5 and naturally can be far less customized...

the fact you cant full respec him without a mod is stupid. I hate his default skills.

Yeah, never took him into party once I got him. arch types are meh, weapon chices are meh, overall gearing is meh. And he takes 4 squares on battlefield =) Basically he did not add anything to the party I had by Act III.
But maybe it's me and my playstyle, I dunno. Although I should add that using ToyBox you can respec and mod Ulfar the way you like and make a proper astartes out of him.

See my thing is, if he was a warrior and you could build him into a vanguard, you know make him a tank, he would be great, but you cant and he just...sucks because of that.
In fact, the Space Marine needs its own set of classes.

i don't think he would even work as a tank.
even with his really good armour and dodge stats almost every shot of a burst attack hit him which brought him to really low health every time i tried to use him

Mine has around 350 both ballistic and weapon skill and 160 strength at the end of chapter 3. (lvl 36) with 44 stacks of versatility during combat. Only thing I need for him is to be able to shoot while in melee range. I thought there was a trait for that?

Then again Argenta probably could get the same and with the damage reduction mon-keigh hide cloak she would be immortal.
The Space Marine has a number of problems:
1. He is big - all area attacks will regularly hit him, and there will be no room for maneuver and positioning.
2. His health level is at or below that of your standard characters.
3. He is limited with things and is really inferior to the sister of the battle in all respects.
Considering the character development system in the game, you can change a number of numbers or something else, but globally this will not make Olav better.
I think the Space Marine as a companion should have been pushed into its own DLC (along with other large creatures). VDLS introduces new classes and archetypes.

Arch Militant can get a talent for shooting in melee with -10 to BS
