Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader

Act 1 boss help
So... whats the deal here? Turn 1, he uses burst fire to kill 2-4 of my characters. If they survive turn 1, he immediately attacks the drop ship, destroying it instantly and spawning 6-8ish more enemies.

Ive begun trying to cheese him at this point, which is unfortunate as I dont think a boss needs to be cheesed, but im running out of options.

first time I played I though this fight was IMPOSSIBLE, but it is kinda easy when you know when you are doing.

1. He always start so you spread out all your characters (stupid but whatever)
2. kill the snipers with your sniper
3. debuff his ass!!! pazcal should be able to do it. (and pick up that plasmagun/sniperrifles, right before the fight)
5 you can handle the trashmobs, with a snigle fire grenade.
(this should be good for daring and below)

this fight is pretty badly designed, since you need to know about it before you can handle it, Or atleast know the game mechanics pretty well.
I don’t really agree that it’s badly designed from a layout or enemy standpoint. You should be spreading out your characters at the start of every battle to avoid burst fire. That’s just the reality of fighting with automatic weapons.

The marine himself is badly designed and the extra attack he gets when he blows up a shuttle is crap, but as far as layout goes it’s a pretty interesting puzzle fight.

All that said the choice of thousand sons was a strange one. He uses no psychic powers in the fight even though he should have them if he was able to survive the rubricae. I got super excited for a minute at first and then all he does is shoot a bolter and kick you. Kind of a letdown.

Why not use literally any other chaos legion?

it is not a T sons, its a wordbearer.
If anything is weird about him, its that he has no demon backup ;)

My problem is that you, are "forced" to place you characters unlike any other fight out of cover etc, just to make the AI behave a certain way, and avoid the turn 1 burst

I doubt we are talking about the same Boss, this is act 1 finalboss, and he says nothing about Prospero

I have played warhammer for 30 year, I know a wordbearer armor and icon when I see it.
Act 1 is the prologue right? I swear he talked about the burning of prospero on my save. Red power armor with giant horns.

and if everything failed............................................ there is one more cheese you can do. you can just run to your allies at the fuel depot now turn field hospital........ this way you can avoild the sniper for a good 3 to 4 turns as he run down the ladder, and now you have a couple of imperial guards as allies.

Wait, field hospital? Is there a place to get rid of your trauma's?

It doesn't rid you of the traumas, but it has a couple of medkits to loot.
ok some one just show me a new build, he kill the boss before the boss even go t to move. what you do is go to ship hire 3 mercs all offiers. 1 officer get the buff the other 3 include cassia just get extra action, if your own character is an officer that is even better,

all officer get the talent that give you extra half turn before the game starts. get agentra sniper rilfe, talent that has buff with alliens around her you will get like 5 stacks of that because you camp your entire team around her. first officer give her 2 buffs 1 resolution 1 command. first 2 shots you murder some weak randons so that you have heroics, and solider buff. now after you got your buffs and have heroics ready just start unloading on the boss, you should be able to to kill him before he even gets to move.
The fight isn't all that difficult (I'm only playing on daring though), the issue is that it runs completely contrary to the lessons the game has been teaching you to that point (doing this is very bad encounter design). The correct thing to do is ignore the cover and spread your party out as wide as possible during the pre-battle phase. If you even try sticking to cover like usual, the CSM is going to tear half your party apart on turn 1. The sniper is almost certainly going to take out 2-3 of your party anyway, considering he can hit for 60+ damage, more hp than anyone has by then.

But after surviving Aurora's initial turn (Pasqual dropped to like 1hp, but nobody else hit) I had 5 party members focus on the boss himself, psyker powers being especially good for chunking his hp down, while Argenta went to the right at used bolter spray to mop up the trash. Sniper was the last one to go down, once I got within range to blast him with psykers.

By the time you're doing that, you might as well just load up Toybox mod and make your party invincible or something.
well toybox is cheating, what he did involve 0 cheating
Lucky me, my Rogue Trader is a sniper himself so the enemy sniper went down in 1-2 turns. Aurora was a very hard nut to crack, but you can abuse the fact that he wastes so many of his turns running around and attacking objects instead of wiping your team out with his heavy bolter. The cannon fodder he summons can easily be cleaned up with a grenade/psyker/navigator while your operatives can keep debuffing the boss.

Admittedly, I also thought this was not a fight I was supposed to win, given that Aurora always gets to act first and the first thing he does is mow down 1-2 of my squad members. Tough fight overall, had to reload a couple of times until the rng god smiled upon me and nobody died in his first turn.

Your build at this instant is somewhat important. That being said, a typical step to take at the intro of this fight is to have your companions spread out so you aren't completely destroyed by a single burst fire. Assuming you survive that, you debuff the CSM and burn him down from multiple angles. Even a weak party build should be able to take down Aurora, the biggest thing in this fight is companion deployment. I can't speak to a SPECIFIC strategy against this boss because I don't know your current party build or their skill sets, but making sure your party isn't wiped out with an opening burst fire is a significant portion of the fight.
I did it by not letting him use burst fire. In turn 1 I moved my two warriors into melee with him and also pasquel into melee so I had one melee character on 3 of his sides.. his fourth side was up against some cover.

I used my sniper to take out the sniper on the turret. It took two turns.

I used argenta armed with a flamer (not hand flamer) (cant remember where I found the flamer but think it was the fusion reactor site). She mopped up the two groups of three adds in 2 turns.

Did this on daring.
