Act 1 boss help
So... whats the deal here? Turn 1, he uses burst fire to kill 2-4 of my characters. If they survive turn 1, he immediately attacks the drop ship, destroying it instantly and spawning 6-8ish more enemies.

Ive begun trying to cheese him at this point, which is unfortunate as I dont think a boss needs to be cheesed, but im running out of options.

What difficulty are you playing on?
Helios Dec 15, 2023 @ 1:49am
Placement at the start of a fight is extremely important. Avoid placing your characters in a line (even several squares apart).

Another problem is the sniper, who absolutely must die in the first or second round.

i honestly have no idea how i would have beaten that boss without the navigator in the party killing him with her death ray.

no one else could do any damage to him.

most party that didn't plan for sniper can't kill the sniper in the first or second round.

at this point you will have couple sniper rlife collected alone the way, give 2 to your best BS characters,

if you have buffs buff the counter snipers and not the tank.

for the boss if you manage your placement right, which means you keep your distance, then he does two things machine gun you down, or charge you down.
on higher difficult the charge is scarier than the machine gun. because the charge is almost 100% instead ko.

but remember you have a back pack (cape item) that if you die put you at 1 hp. put this items in you off tank. your off tank's job is to block the charge path between the boss and your main tank so the main tank don't just die from the charge.

after the sniper is dead you should be able to kill it ez with the unsanctioned psyker by poping analyist on him.

of course there is a 5% chance you will lose the fight every time you use her to attack but................... that is what save and load is for.

and if everything failed............................................ there is one more cheese you can do. you can just run to your allies at the fuel depot now turn field hospital........ this way you can avoild the sniper for a good 3 to 4 turns as he run down the ladder, and now you have a couple of imperial guards as allies.

I lost 2 teamates to them, Argenta in turn 1 (lowered my damage a lot) and Heinrix while trying to reach the sniper. Still killed him in the first time tough.

The key is remembering you can decide who he will hit due to his vengeance ability. Abelard was the most important teamate to me, because he is a LOT less scary against someone with deflection that can punish he for moving.

And the shuttles will likely all be destroyed because that battle is on a timer.

I left the sniper last.
Just stay in cover and nuke the spesh mahreen.
Spread out, stay in cover, and do anything you can to hurt and/or debuff the boss.
That wason normal though, so higher difficulties probably require more planning.

first time I played I though this fight was IMPOSSIBLE, but it is kinda easy when you know when you are doing.

1. He always start so you spread out all your characters (stupid but whatever)
2. kill the snipers with your sniper
3. debuff his ass!!! pazcal should be able to do it. (and pick up that plasmagun/sniperrifles, right before the fight)
5 you can handle the trashmobs, with a snigle fire grenade.
(this should be good for daring and below)

this fight is pretty badly designed, since you need to know about it before you can handle it, Or atleast know the game mechanics pretty well.

If you can't beat it, just set the diff to story (for this fight) and move on with your life.

On Unfair difficulty, i find the best way is to deploy your entire party right at the bottom, near the railing of the platform. It puts you in a far enough distance from the boss and the sniper so they will tend to miss their attacks. Cover feels pointless in this fight imo, keeping distance is the best method i found.

Then have Cassia use Notch of Purpose to pull the boss away from your party while dealing damage. Also buff up Cassia & Idira with Reveal the Light(+Willpower & Toughness), you should keep spamming it on Cassia & Idira to reapply the buff with higher stat increase as the buff depends on your WP bonus so it will scale up everytime you rebuff. More HP and Dmg, its crucial.

Debuff boss with Idira's Sensory Deprivation.

Cassia can use her Lightning to clear trash mobs or use Argenta. Once Idira's willpower hits 100-200, you can use her Psychic Shriek to deal 200 dmg, you can 2-3 shot the boss then.

Use Cassia's Bring It Down or any Officer to spam Reveal the Light and Psychic Shriek.

Other party members just use their ranged abilities to clear trash mobs, take cheap shots at boss and buff + debuff. I had Heindrix as healer & psybuffer. My MC is officer so just buff duty. Pasqal & Argenta focus on stacking debuff and clearing trash mobs. They honestly are weak at low levels. Cassia + Idira combo triumphs every build & companion throughout the whole game.

I enjoyed that fight a lot. I'm playing officer and my strategy was to buff Abelard and then use him to tank and shank by giving him extra turns from Cassia and myself, with Sworn Enemy and everything. Random goons are effectively momentum fodder - use grenade to charge heroic act quickly. Sniper was annoying though, in the end Argenta had to run there to finish him off. I did it on Daring on my second try and I lost two characters in process (one on his first attack, which I think is almost inevitable, another was picked by a sniper in the end where I got too excited, rushed to finish him off and didn't play around my guy missing). I have to admit I haven't quite figured how exactly his hatred mechanic worked (he would just kick Abelard aside and then shoot my other guys), but I managed to over-dps him in the end nonetheless which was very fun :D The fact that he at some point starts wasting his turns to shoot shuttles helps immensely, he managed to destroy one and then died on the staircase towards the other two.

This is interesting btw, because in the first battle of the event chain leading to the boss fight I noticed Idria was unable to cast anything because of a psykic trauma she received. Status said it was a permanent injury that had to be healed on the ship, so I opted to reload and take someone else instead. Does she recover from it or is it there a saving throw behind the scenes that you can pass?

I don’t really agree that it’s badly designed from a layout or enemy standpoint. You should be spreading out your characters at the start of every battle to avoid burst fire. That’s just the reality of fighting with automatic weapons.

The marine himself is badly designed and the extra attack he gets when he blows up a shuttle is crap, but as far as layout goes it’s a pretty interesting puzzle fight.

All that said the choice of thousand sons was a strange one. He uses no psychic powers in the fight even though he should have them if he was able to survive the rubricae. I got super excited for a minute at first and then all he does is shoot a bolter and kick you. Kind of a letdown.

Why not use literally any other chaos legion?

Spread your guys around and have the one doing damage last in the turn run farther away as possible (cause she attacks the latest one doing her damage, she'll be target of opp attacks while moving away)
Countersnipe the sniper (in my game he never had a chance to shoot)
Buff your melee guys to withstand a couple turns (Endure etc)
Stack exploits on Aurora
Kill mobs to get ultimates proc (area Plasma, flamer, nades, Cassia AoE...)
Profit with 4+ attacks/guy/turn on debuffed Aurora (using Cassia to give turns and aim possibly)
