And it take forever for them to move and shoot, just drop the difficulty down and walk through it. I liked the colony system but the space combat is so painfully unfun.

It's actually terrible. You basically run away and use torpedo's until you thin them out enough and then hope that your gear is good enough to survive that long. If your components are bad and they have magic extra range torpedo's then you're toast. Fun gameplay 10/10. Extra points for forcing the fun gameplay while simultaneously making the ship weapon vendor the worst reputation vendor in the game. Just like in the beta. Nobody seems to have playtested this.

Combat on the harder difficulties I can handle even when I have endless LOS issues, but the ship combat on the harder difficulties is awful. This really becomes an example of where you must play EXACTLY as the dev intended or you're boned.

completly owlcats fault, they refused to update the beta with new changes.
if they are so lacking in QA guys they should just let the players do it while it is officially still in a beta stage.
Is there a way to gain more ship? insted of the always 1 ship vs 5 ships thingy?
Yes, by planetary projects you can gain another ship (AI-controlled, and dumb as hell) to soak up damage, attention and do some small-time damage.
I quite like it to be honest, although it is a bit simplistic.
Enemy outnumer you yes. you can pick upgrades after awhile for your ship that makes you go first allways. you can get escort ships to help in battle aswell via planet projeckts. you also have the option to speed up the animation on enemy turn. and you can adress the damage numbers, or even go to Easy mode. Normal is not always duable when fighting alone vs 4+ enemy ships that are all bigger and stronger then you are. also make sure you go to inventory and mark all void throphies as Cargo so you can sell them to the Naval trader and get upgraded weapons for your own ship
There are a lot of complaints, and I personally am not a big fan either, but what I managed to understand is that you only need to take the most easiest fights in the beginning, win them (maybe you will have to save scum so you get nice RNG), and basically try to upgrade your hull 2 or 3 times, from the fights themselves you will recieve some upgrades, equip them. And last but not least, be smart about the abilities you take from the ship level up and the companions that are on the different stations on the ship (Shield booster ultimate, 45 degrees turns, expose weakness etc.)

When it comes to positioning always try and position yourself so the enemy is hitting the strongest shield of your ship, in most cases they will attack your sides, I noticed. So when you get a grip of the movement and positioning and all, I suggest you take the fights with pirates, in my opinion those are the easiest because they start to flee after a certain damage threshold leaving their other allies vulnerable, of course if you want the rewards you will have to destroy them which is much much easier while they are fleeing since it takes them 3 turns to activate light-speed.
Tbh this isnt an owlcat thing like if you play battlefleet golthic ships do the same thing ths only different here is grid base.

Game is lore heavy space combat is ment to be a slow hard thing, with that being said one you actually it some upgrades all yall crying goes out the window cause the game lets you move be crafty use warp ♥♥♥♥ lol its actually fun as ♥♥♥♥
and lets not forget, the enemy ships might just start running away from you and continue running until they hit the map edge. so hf with that.

I actually don't mind it,there's a fair bit of strategy to it as you have to try and maximize your attacks per round. I do agree however that some of the fights feel completely unfair as you only get a single ship. Would be a lot more fun if you could get control of more ships.

Press space bar to speed them up.
This is kind of Owlcat's calling card. They make a great (but very buggy on release) CRPG and then cram some kind of extra gameplay mode onto it that just doesn't feel good. For Kingmaker it was the kingdom management that involved exhaustively min maxing every follower and picking who handled what. For WOTR they fixed that part but the strategy turn-based unit combat was awful. And now for this game it's this.

At least ship combat in this kind of feels good to play, it's just a shame it's balanced like a sledgehammer.

Still a billion times better than the horrendous turn-based unit battles in WOTR, though. I don't think anything will ever compare to that. Even post rework that combat system is atrocious, and it's about ten fold better than it was on launch.
i like it, its ver simplistic and i wish it was more inpdeth but the basics are fine

you can get upgrades to go first(silent running 1 and 2)

also dont forget to put your companions in ship posts to get abilities to use in ship combat

you can also later get an escort frigate to fight with you in ship battles

its nothing super in-depth and it can get stale if u just keep fdoing them over and over but they are way more spaced out than wrath's army battles and they are also better than those army battles where you'd just either stack ranged units to snipe everything or use general spells to wipe out whole enemy armies in 1 move
