Default NPC builds
I must admit, I usually like leveling up characters myself, but for the crew I have with me, I really miss the 'automatic level-up' thing in Kingmaker. Feels like you're spending most of your time leveling up characters, and ... they're NPC's, you're not supposed to level them up, and there's a lot of details to get a build 'right' or even functional.

This is a very plan-intensive leveling system, with lots of things going on.

(and lots of maths, lots of iinterconnections, and bugs).

It would be nice if you could have training wheels on leveling up the NPC's, that's all. :)

Don’t sleep on the stuff at the bottom of the list, especially for your magic types (psyker, navigator). There’s some strong stuff down there. Especially for navigator.

100% agree with the OP, I was gutted when auto level up wasn't there

Idk, leveld up all my chars manually in kingmaker, was an okay experience, here it looks waaaay more easier, at least for now.

Not everyone uses it, that's for sure! I hope it makes a return though, despite not really thinking it will.

Fingers crossed!

It gets better. You level up A LOT in Chapter 1, but in Chapter 2 since you already have your builds outlined the lvl up speed is toned down a little.

Chapter is a lvl up simulator first time around though.

it's finally getting to me, this game needs autolevelling! Why did they have it in kingmaker and wrath but remove it from RT? I loved levelling up in the two previous games, but wouls always auto-level companions, cos who has time for that!? This game could suffer if they don't add it, for me who is a 40k nut, a crpg nut, and a fan of Owlcat, i can endure it... barely... but others not so obsessed with 40k might call it a day at some point before the end.

To be fair, I think they have a LOT of things they wanted to get into the game - it's a big project - but they had a deadline for a christmas release, and you have to say, 'that's enough, we have to ship it now' at some point. Fortunately, Owlcat tends to add things after release. I hope this is one of those things.

I agree whole hardheartedly, fingers crossed it is patched in one day soon

Idk, I actually like manually levelling my characters - gives me a sense of control y'know, I can build them to be exactly how I like them. The starred options aren't always automatically the best (see: How Ulfar sucks because of his build because they just picked the top option of the list and he ends up with stuff like Second Skin [his power armour completely makes this talent redundant!!])

With everyone except maybe Abelard and Jae, I almost always level them from the bottom stuff unique to them first before the archetype stuff. By leaning into what makes them different than the player, it makes the player's character feel more unique/valuable.

Yeah I don't disagree, shouldn't remove the option to manually level everything if you want to, just be good to have the auto level function for us that like it

Are you guys serious? Not have times to manually leveling your characters?
In a RPG?
Coldhands Jan 2, 2024 @ 6:08am
Yeah, it’d be good to have a couple preset build options for characters in the game.
I don’t know what the state of Rogue Trader leveling guides is these days, but you could see if anybody has some good companion guides out there.

It's not about time; It's about story.

The NPC's are designed with a story and personality. Their leveling should be 'theirs', not up to you; they are NPC's, not secondary PC's.

I disagree. Not with having an autolevel scheme, (thats fine) but with not having any choices at all in it.

Because any really worthwile RPG I'll want to do multiple playthroughs. So its great if I can come up with an entirely different build for each companion to really make that playthrough different.

Either way their leveling choices don't impact their story at all really.
