What weapons do you give Abelard?
I know he starts with chainsword and melta guns.
He is deathworld and navy officer origin; so he has a bonus on hammers and axes, and crit with bleeds.

I plan to make him my tank/vanguard as that's how it feels lore-friendly wise.

There's no shields, I assume hammers are 2hand? I haven't found a hammer yet.
Axes, swords and chain swords are 1hand.

Should he duel wield; perhaps with a pistol?

How would you build abelard equipment wise?

Thanks in advance!

Butler has Thunder Hammer. This is the way.

first thunder hammer to him then buff hime with officer buff and idara divination. It make abelard square off a CSM like a CSM do to a human in books. i made him one shot a damn bloodletter due to idara summoning one (it crit hard)

Abelard is Imperial, not Death world. So no hammer/axe bonus.

I kept him with chain weapons so far. No regrets.
My Trader is also a naval warrior (forgeworld) who uses power hammers.

There are 2h swords and axes around as well, as well as 1h maces (power mauls) and 2h maces (thunder hammers - you can get your first of those on Footfall, from Cinder the ganger who tries to use it to perform brain surgery on you)

Personally I prefer swords where possible because the +10% parry and thoroughly evil -10% to WS on enemies if you hit them with one is great, but I can definitely see the value in giving him a Thunder Hammer and going to town.

Thunderlard with the Vanguard tree is an absolute beast. For 2nd loadout I give him a melee weapon and melta handgun

Chainswords. Parry beast. Just fight everyone on the map. Taunt them all. All they do is make him stronger. Whatever pistol you like works fine in offhand. Throwing a random axe or hammer on him is fine too even without the talents for it. Just having the U shaped attack on deck for when you might need it.

dual wield chainswords. Its not the most effective, but its a fun tank build.

I mean, he has two hands and a second slot. So two one-handed weapons, and a two hander in the second slot. Maybe you pick one thing to focus on as the go to weapon, but I wouldn't limit myself.

Chainsword/Pistol (right now the Deadshot Revolver so he can hit things if needed) and the second set is a 2h Axe. All he needs is a Pistol of some kind on one weapon set for some range threat when he runs out of Charge/MP, but otherwise melee and melee works.

2HD weapon, best one is Thunder Hammer.

There no reason to wear a pistol for him (if you're not going Arc-Militant route) as with his BS he isn't going to hit anything past first Act. But with power hammer & loaded with offensive talents he's awesome. Especially if combined with full Officer - he can give him 3 extra attacks at cost of 4AP.

Chainaxe in primary and chainsword in secondary.
Brendylyon Dec 11, 2023 @ 9:00pm
Thunderhammer and the heaviest armor I can give him. Secondary I have him with a marksman rifle.

Thunder Hammer is the best weapon for him, by a large margin.
