Am I playing this right?
Hello, folks!

So, I played the previous two Owlcat games (both Pathfinders), and I've learned that, well, there are some cases when you can build your character absolutely wrong which will make the whole game feel like a slog. I think I like that approach, but all the same, I wanna enjoy the game =)

In most games, I usually play either as a tank or as a leader. So here, I first decided to try and build myself a Void World Nobleman Officer with a focus on having lots of social skills and being able to buff allies. On the paper this seems like something really good, cuz I get to buff all my allies and I picked the skills from each part to boost the stats / rolls / etc of my team. I also give people additional turns, which sometimes results in some ridiculous moments where my team mate can solo, like, 8 people during one turn.

But I can't shake off the feeling that it's only like that in the beginning (lvl 7 atm), and later on things will get much-much harder, since I just picked to play a skill-monkey buffing idiot with no capacity for dealing damage (I made a similar mistake in Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous).

In your experience, do you think I'll survive like that, or should I restart?

Also, about the restarts - as I am going to, quite possibly, play a tank - which one would be a better tank? A melee buffing Death World Commissar Warrior or a ranged Fortress World Astra Militarum Commander Soldier with heavy armor on me?

Thanks for the answers!

You should be fine with whatever, but I haven't beaten the game yet. I know there are some solo sections but I don't know how hard they get, so I'd at least make sure you have some decent gear and don't completely ignore your own personal DPS stats (get some Ballistic/Weapon Skill, f. ex.)

Regarding your tank question, the "tanking" tree is the Vanguard Archetype, which is definitely melee based (only open to Warrior or Officer archetypes). The "classic" tank build seems to be Warrior -> Vanguard. Your ranged option sounds good if you just want to be a ranged bruiser, but you're not going to be taunting enemies and you'll be lacking the defensive skills of Warrior & Vanguard.

At lvl 11 with Noble/Officer and just getting stronger. As usual with crpgs/turn based tactics i expect the game to get easier as you aquire more tools to works with. Normal difficulty should be fully fine without any min maxing. I feel like i could beat mosts fights with just buffed up Adelard. Guy is a beast.

Officier basically push the action enonomy to broken limits.

being able to give an action to anyone that needs it = strong.
even more so when you can spam giving action to a class that has mechanics to scales it's damage every turn (like an Operative or a Tactician) you just spam your trigger that scale your own class damage, then you just delete everything on screen.

a team with lot of Operatives that scale dozens of stack on everyone on screen and you just delete all of that with any Psyker (operative) AoE done. fight is over. and for boss it's mostly about waiting enough stacks to just one shot it, and just debuff him otherwise.

having Cassia being buff to godhood the more "extra" turn are given = she become your ultimate bread and butter in your fights if your use 1 (or more) Officier skill giving turns.

let Cassia give turns, buff early, and later pick the "hold my gaze" skill.

she can reach 200% dodge, 200% armor (with operatives Knowledge buff) 120+hp and 30hp/turn regen all while doing 100-150 (base) with 1AP hold my gaze skill.

had up to 680 damage buffed so far. for 1 ap... hard to do better, and i'm only in early act 2.

you could respec Everyone as an officer/tactician (ideally Psyker) and just troll the game, having cassia being immortal by turn 2, just because you give her over 25 Will per turn. which buffs her own "buff" and give ebveryone else 100+ Toughness and will everytime she uses it.
Thanks for the answers! I think I will still reroll. The character I built has next to no combat stats.

Buffs are huge in this game. My friend does nothing but buff and even without him actively contributing to damage some rounds, the sheer power of his force multipliers more than makes up for it. Don't sleep on commander / buffing / debuffing units.

I'm doing Ranged, Forge World, Ministorum Priest Operative. I have no idea if this is good or bad but I though the combination would be fun in an RP way.

I went Hive World, Noble, Officer, its pretty much the trifecta leader build, its not a character mean to fight solo by any stretch of imagination, its basically there to be a support character that will in itself suck at fighting but will make sure everybody will do much better at fighting, so obviously if you want to play solo never go for that sort of build, but if you want to lead a full squad while standing in the back buffing them its the char to go for the MC.
Good points, all. I just don’t think that heavily focusing on being a non-combat character would pay well.

I'm not sure if this would interest you, but I went Forge World operative sniper - there's a talent that lets you use Int in place of Fel for social checks, which means I do crazy damage, have lots of lore / tech skills AND am good at talking even though I have the Fel score of a drunk ork. It may not be meta but I cover so many bases I have a lot of fun in and out of combat.
Edit: I play on the harder settings so thus far it seems viable, my only party wipe being when my sniper accidentally shot through an enemy and took out Abelard while I was still learning that sniper rifles pierce through targets in a line. RIP, big guy.

So, update, I am level 16 now and so far I did not respec. I did not take a single stat that improves my combat capabilities (aka, no agility, strength, ballistic/weapon skill), because each turn I spend most or all of my action points on granting other team members buffs. This is crazy, because at times I can finish combat in 1-2 turns, just because of the action economy. I think I will change up the difficulty to unfair to just see how it goes there.

I haven’t dealt a single point of damage for the last 6 levels.
