Pathfinder similarities?
I couldn't get into either pathfinder game, primarily due to huge difficulty spikes and overly complicated mechanics. Does this game have the same issues or is it a more standards TBS?

I found it easier to get into with less complicated mechanics but it does have several difficulty spikes.

The bosses at the end of the prologue and chap 1 might give you problems if you don't use all tools available to you and don't check you enemies abilities.

Can you change the difficulty mid-game like you could with their previous titles?

For better or worse it seems based on the Fantasy Flight D100 system for Warhammer RPGs. It has it's own pros and cons compared to the Pathfinder 1e Rules.

Yes you can indeed!

I would personally say the game is easier and a bit less convoluted than the Pathfinder games were. The difficulty spikes are definitely less common and not as rough

Less mechanically complicated, but also more demanding in terms of positioning etc for abilities. Also very limited respec.
