Cassia recruitment is poorly designed...
I decided I didn't trust Felek so I attacked him. After a difficult battle I went up to the elevator I talked to Cassia and Theobald once Cassia passes out. I tried to talk to him and ask for a navigator he's super ungrateful about me killing the traitor on the ship, has no respect for me being a rogue trader, and the only option you have is to kill him. It makes no sense for there to be no peaceful resolution after dealing with the traitor on the station, even worse is the fact that your get railroaded into killing Cassia's mentor.

I literally did it earlier, you picked the wrong dialogue options.

If you don't do the persuasion or commerce check it forces you to fight him. Makes absolutely no sense.

I agree, although for a different reason. Even if you commit a massacre and murder everyone, Cassia forgets all her woes as soon as she steps off the station, and the very next dialogue lets you court her in no vague terms as she chirps in fascination about the power of feelings and the wonders of the wide open world. It's just... sad how little build-up there is to her relationship.

I did not have to kill Theobald, he was already dying.
Try putting some points into your social skills, to unlock more favourable dialogue options.

Theobald actually begged me to take Cassia, because it was the only way she could be safe.

And Felek wanted me to take Cassia just to get her away. Except that after talking to Theobald the only way to end the dialog is to kill someone. They both want exactly the same thing, for me to take cassia, and because of their overwhelming agreement one of them has to die.

makes perfect sense, they were being attacked by traitors of their own faction, and they literally cannot trust you if you do not succeed a skill check to reassure them.

I decided to see what happens when you side with Felek and when you bring Cassia to him he reveals that he is the traitor, gloats at you being tricked into doing his dirty work, calls Cassia a monster, insults the most highly respected ancestor of their House, and then proceeds to get smooshed across the floor by the now enraged Cassia. His goons then start combat against you without him so the fight difficulty is about the same as if you had sided with Theobald.
