Changing My Name
I gave my Rogue Trader a last name not knowing they were going to be given a last name. Is there a way I can change the name?

Probably only save editor/Toy Box.

You can't, but it doesn't have to be an issue.
Think of it this way, your character has a first name, a family name and now a clan name.
They're still self identifying with their family name and may, at some time after the events in the game drop that.

Yes, my character has rank 3 Iconoclast after the first star system.

The "von" in von Valencius comes from the german von which means something like "from" . It's more of a title and in this case it refers to your dynastic holdings, not your surname. Historically this was not always the case but in the grimdark future, it is.

having a seperate last name is not out of character for how titles are done.

John Doe von valencius is perfectly cultural correct.

your character is distantly related to the family and so it can easily be assumed your last name isn't von valencius

Vox Master Vigdis's full name is Vox Master Octavus Vigdis Surri Otta of the Toliman Dynasty. You are way better off than her.

Culturally correct to what culture? If you are assuming a dynasty, territorial, or positional name, you assume that name, it's no different than when women get married in many cultures.

It SOME cultures you do keep both paternal and maternal names (i.e. many hispanic ones do this), but I struggle to think of even a single culture where an authorial bloodline that does not completely and automatically drown out a mundane one.

I.e. if you marry into a royal family, even as a man, rare as that was, you almost always take the royal bloodline/dynasty's name because its the one that has authority and power. Not rocket science.

played through the beginning of the tutorial till the game first used a last name for me..
Toy Box usually has an option to rename but I didn't check for rogue trader (uninstalled once I noticed that most skills I wanted to use on my main were broken)

Other than that - assuming you noticed in the tutorial you will lose like 10 minutes of game play if you just restart.
