is this only cosmetic?
I'm not too far into the game but it seems to be. Even the descriptions for the different ships are identical and there is no text that suggests any mechanical difference between the models.
They do have stats. You can check it by pressing V after the first conversation. While not that wildly different between each other, one of them is faster than the other and has slightly more HP to begin with.
The only time it's ever a challenge is at the start of the game on higher difficulties, and really, mostly because the balance scaling for it is really wonky ala typical Owlcat.
You sure? Because my Falchion had torpedoes, lance and macrobatteries the same as the Sword in the beta.
