nobody with a opinion on a steam forum no less.

Firestorm. Because it looked cooler.

Firestorm, its design fit the "compensating for something" vibe better. I even named it the IVO Biggun.

firestorm, bought the deluxe just for that. Looks like a good sized ship for being your main ship. worthy of a rogue trader, the sword looks small for being your main base in my opinion. wish it changed icon on the travel map though. but that's a minor complaint.

falchion-class user here. namely because it's the biggest, baddest one there is.

I'm not too far into the game but it seems to be. Even the descriptions for the different ships are identical and there is no text that suggests any mechanical difference between the models.

Falchion-class easily looks the coolest and is my favorite personally, but if you don't have access to it the firestorm is probably better and looks better imo than sword-class. Lore-wise, I guess it doesn't really matter.

They do have stats. You can check it by pressing V after the first conversation. While not that wildly different between each other, one of them is faster than the other and has slightly more HP to begin with.

I’m pretty sure any difference in stats is just the ships starting equipment configuration

The ship combat becomes meaninglessly easy very quickly once you get equipment, so don't worry about it too much.

The only time it's ever a challenge is at the start of the game on higher difficulties, and really, mostly because the balance scaling for it is really wonky ala typical Owlcat.

The only difference between them is starting equipment. One doesn't have any torps, one doesn't have a long range forward weapon and another doesn't have as many macro batteries.

You sure? Because my Falchion had torpedoes, lance and macrobatteries the same as the Sword in the beta.
