Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader

I know nothing about warhammer 40k, will this game still be fun?
Serious question no trolling. I know nothing about Warhammer 40k, will that hurt the game for me? I've played both Pathfinder games so I'm interested in another RPG by Owlcat, but I wanted to check first.

Thanks friends.

I knew nothing about Pathfinder before playing the two games that Owlcat made. This game is set up with the same stuff those games had to bring you into it.

If you want to get into the lore, and don't mind humor and criticism as part of that learning experience, 1d4chan has great articles to read on the things relative to this game. You don't need to read all 1500 books.
Back in 2009, the rogue trader RPG was released, which covered campaigns in the Koronus sector. (Huh, sounds familiar?).

It was the second WH40k RPG, the first was Dark Heresy where you played an inquisitor's retinue.

I am looking forward to, potentially, Black Crusade, where you play as proper heretics, chaos sorcerers and traitor space marines. If Owlcat ever makes that, I'd LOVE playing that. Possibly. Might be less fun that you'd expect.

Anyway, yeah. The game explains the important stuff as you play, and you have the option, in character, of asking about a lot of the less usual aspects. No worries.
If you want an easy lighthearted comedic take, Bricky's videos have been used for a few years now to introduce people with no clue about the universe.

You can always go deeper with Warhammer 40k lore, that's part of the fun, but it's a good primer with a few stipulations.

If you ever want more, my personal favorites are the Templin Institutes videos

They do videos on many different universes.

Yes, the Rogue Traders are an organization destined for the exploration of unexplored and unknown space by the Imperium of Man. They are the only organization that is allowed to hire aliens, as the Imperium is extremely xenophobic. This is because their mission is considered extremely important, and failure would be a catastrophe. One of their many missions is to find, for example, human planets not claimed by the Imperium, and then, through another organization, convince them to worship the God Emperor and let them enter their domain.

thanks for that info, very much appreciated and well explained

and looks like I have a few videos to watch before i get right into the game... thanks all.
This is about the best way to learn about the 40k universe via discussions that are relevant to key features of the universe.
Rogue trader is a good way to learn 40k because you are able to work with and alongside all the major factions when it suits your needs as part of imperial charter. The game also includes a pretty good encyclopedia and in text hints.
