Does Burst Fire count as an Area Attack?

At first glance I would say no. Most games that have area of effect = aoe. Mean explosion of some kind like grenade or whatever. Burst fire is just shooting multiple times with projectiles hitting objects in their way. Well still I can't say to your answer 100% certainty I am right in my small opinion.

While logicaly, yes, it sounds about right, after looking at it's icon and how it works in battle, I started to have doubts and wanted to clarify it

Burst is a cone effect. So there is a high probability that it's considered an aoe attack.

Burst fire is not an aoe. Aoe would be flamers, meltaguns, plasma guns (specific aoe attack) grenades etc.

Reviewers made the same mistaken assumption and complained endlessly that their terrible builds for Argenta were terrible

Like flamers in the game are AOE weapons as they hit all the squares. Just for your to know, I have played wh40k tabletop games so know what weapons are aoe and which aren't.

Idk, but burst seems to be considered to be an AoE by Concentrated Fire talent.
Currently I am at a position where I have unspent level and a combat encounter ready nearby, so I'm testing all talents I want to take beforehand.

Without concentrated fire Argenta's bolter burst: 6-10 damage. With it: 10-16.
However — It is supposed to be 100% damage increase, if the formulae in the talent description is correct, so seems to be some underlying mechanic taking place there too 🤔

Update: changed bolter to one with higher base damage. Without CF: 9-14, to any of 3 clusters of enemies. With it: 14-22 to one cluster, 15-23 to second, and 16-24 to third. Also tried grenade, and tooltip still says 12-24 damage, with or without talent, although I'd say that throwing a nade is certainly ranged AoE attack 😏

I also tested when multiple shots from burst volley hit same target, and they were all buffed by Concentrated Fire, not only the first shot, if anyone (like me) had doubts.

You do. But that doesn't mean that owlcat does. If they tag burst as aoe, then it's a aoe. Just like they tagged the psyker staves as primitive weapons, so they are not force weapons... even I'm pretty sure that a force staff is a force weapon...

I found this thread asking myself the same question as I was having Argenta use a bolter and wanted to know if Concentrated Fire was worth it.

In a fight after taking the talent (which increases ranged area attack damage) I checked my burst fire damage by clicking it and hovering over an enemy, and saw it would bring the target to half health. Then used Concentrated Fire and checked the damage again with the same mob, and it calculated a kill for the damage dealt instead of just half of the targets wounds.

Dont think it does I tested Argenta with and without it on a Bolter and a Melta, on the Melta activating the ability increased the predicted damage while on the Bolter it didnt make any difference to the predicted damage.

"Concentrated fire" does work with burst fire.
