I agree, my friends and I didn't realize this was going to be a limitation when we bought it to play together. A little disappointing.
Still makes no sense not to have a second custom character.
They will probably add it in if people complain enough, otherwise im sure a mod will fix this. Tho im now kind of intrigued about playing an existing character instead of a custom one, should have been an option either way.
My BF and I wanted to play it together, but in order to get to the mercenary hire you have to get through the tutorial opening which can take up to a hour to get through. He quickly refunded the game. I love 40K, so I plan to keep playing. >.>
Terrible BF and a fake gamer.
A real homie would stick it out for 1 hour.
Yeah it's a shame but co-op is better than no co-op. It's actually funny ive seen a number of games, CRPGs or otherwise where people complain it should have co-op of some kind even if it's the most basic and rudimentary functionality, so long as it works. And then we get exactly that and people complain.
Id be very surprised if there isn't an update to fix this.
I went to go read the post and yeah they explained everything. I don't mind it personally, and 100% there will be a mod that lets you make a second custom character immediately anyways. For the time being people can just stick with a story companion or wait for the prolouge to finish to make a mercenary/custom character.
I still think that for it to be an actual co op game, they should have made it more icewind dale based, where you build the entire retinue and play with it as a unit (and each player picks a career).
You can't just have heavy interactions between a player an npc companion and a full coop campaign. At one point it's going to be difficult to hold the writing together.
This is why I still think icewind dale 1 and 2 are the only crpgs that have a coop friendly campaign, every other crpgs are not worth it in coop, it's just a mess.
