Can you go against the Imperium?
For me, Imperium stuff is the least interesting part of the 40k setting despite how much wank there is around it these days.

So what I'm wondering is - can you as the player go against them in this game? In Owlcat's Pathfinder games, both of them you were able to go against factions that originally backed you, you could even openly rebel against them in both games.

Is there anything like that in this game? Or is it limited to subtle subversions and the like?

Im pretty sure you can go a "chaos path". I havent played the game, but watched some videos which indicated you could go a heretical path.

perhaps not fully go against the imperium but we definitely can bend the rules a bit or be secretly heretical in the game and that will even affect the endings

Part of me half-expects it'd be something similar to Chaos Rising where you try and use the Ruinous Powers to fight the Ruinous Powers and you don't really go full-blown heretic until an ending cutscene and the game does a numbers check

I guess that's something at least.
Naturally, everyone is Lawful Evil.

There's also a Chaos path and a "Good" path.

Short answer, Yes. You can. You are a Rogue Trader. They've done some very questionable things before.

You can, but I will find you, and put a bolter round in your dome, heretic!

Considering the "Greater Good" involves human genocide, because humans are natural psykers, and the ethereals cannot control us birthing a God of the Greater Good, that would usurp them; and the brutal way in which they enslaved the Vespids... it is more like the Greater Evil.

A Tau-related path would be nice.

The Tau are weaklings, we should erradicate such xeno´s before they take root and infest larger areas.

Hereticus.

Can anybody else share any info about if there's a path that goes against the Imperium that isn't necessarily a Chaos path?

There's the iconoclast conviction, yes. So, convictions are 3:

>Dogmatic. Support the Imperium, purge the Heretic, kill the Xenos, etc. Standard Imperium-alignment. Used to be called Imperialis.

>Heretic: Make friends with Xenos. Make use of xenotech, make use of warp tech, daemon weapons, etc. Bend the rules as much as possible. Think it used to be called Hereticus?

>Iconoclast: Do what's best for humanity. Disregard the Imperium and look after people and their personal wellbeing. Be a humanist, be kind, be warm. The rarest path. I think it was called Benevolentia?
