No you don't need to go into the furnace, I never even uncovered this possibility.
Under "Uncover Fidelio's Identity" i have all the things you have except the:
The Administorum clerk promises to provide you with documents made out in the name Fidelio if you help him rescue some valuable cargo from the crematorium's furnace.
In never found this clerk, so it could be that this bugs the quest for you.
Now that I think about it, when you first talk to the Chaplin did you lie to him and said you knew The guy or were you honest with him?
Because I lied and had no problem exposing the servitor.
It could be when you're honest that you can't complete the quest this way.
Also I just now tried loading before I entered the station, and made my way to the party again.
Same issue, can get the log back to same as before, minus the Clerk bit.
Chaplain still won't talk about clues, and when I then tried talking to the servitor at the table, it triggered the clerk cut scene on clicking the servitor, wierd.
Last time, the clerk is the same guy that's standing on the grund beneath the platform the chaplain is standing on.
Moving past the area with the coffin, towards the book of remembrance and then into the small area beyong where Kas Bellardo is standing, and there is a trap.
That's when he came over first time, and offered his help.
Right now I'm reinstalling the game, if that doesn't change anything, then I just give up, no idea why it bugs out.
Though I'm sure i found the issue, and wouldn't you know, the consequences of my own choices, I think.
I boarded the station incognito, at the party entrance i claimed to be Fidelio, these choices led me to be unable to discover Fidelio's Identiy, i think.
Because i tried again, still incognito, but this time, I said i was a rogue trader, and a lot of the dialogue options changed, especially Chaplain's, and I was able to solve the mystery and all.
Makes sense, if you claim to be Fidelio, that the Chaplain won't help you figure out who Fidelio is.
Thanks a lot for your time and answers
This should be a strong enough hint for those stumped about this.
On another note, I do wish that the quest could have had one additional option for resolution. It would have been amusing if you could have carried out the wishes of the deceased, as stated in his will.
However, if you pretend to be Fidelio when you enter the area, some options are seemingly simply not available to you, simply making you unable to uncover Fidelio's identity.
At least, such was my experience.
I'd be interested in hearing others who also pretended to be Fidelio at the entrance, who then managed to uncover the identity.
"Im Fidelio!"
"We have no idea who fidelio is."
"Consequently neither do I"
Especially pretending to be Fidelio has some awesome moments
Each path has one trinket (non-unique), the Fidelio path has more loot (profit, consumables..)
Correct, if you decide to pretend to be Fidelio, you can never figure out who Fidelio is - you can only proceed with the clerk's request to collect the contents of the box in the crematory and go from there.
The main difference between the two is a story resolution that you only get if you solve the mystery.
If you solve the mystery, you get an option to leave the inheritance to the granddaughter.
