well imagine fights with 2 large ships and 3 smaller ones. managed to get down to only 1 large ship left but definitely impossible to beat. i do have like 1 upgrade of everything in my haul (plating/shield/burner/torp/gun) but dan't equip and you definitely feel the need for better hardware to beat those ships. without ... nearly impossible.
2 big ships was easy in comparison.
it's not "meant to fail" it's still part of on going defense missions even before you finish doing all 3 planets for main quests, and one sector full of them. you could pass those fights if you could equip the warship gear you dropped until now.
but as a whole when you are alone vs 5-6 ships (even smaller pirates ones) it gets frustrating fast with how meh are space battle, and without the gear.
you dont need multiple really. just the one with have with access to the actual gear you loot would be enough. but at the end of the alpha most space fights are impossible to win as is.
i aint doing 1v6 vs eldars fleet able to drop torpedo each round each and able to tank most my ship damage (even the lowest hp ones) it's just ridiculous at that point.
you can't really get to t3 just in alpha, it requires like a lot of ressources, which even if you pick all mines on the map is often not enough
t1 you can definitely do all of them, t2 some you can, some require reputation, t3 are probably not meant to be done in alpha.
i did pretty much everything there is to do, can't progress more most of stuff (companion and main quest are stuck now)
overall pretty good regardless.
Start with the easier fights vs the chaos ships and work your way up to Eldar and Dark Eldar. It's do-able but in the right order.
I think you can advance some of the tier 3 colony projects but you need to go to footfall and do cargo turn ins to advance your rep with the relevant factions. I was able to get my faction rep up with one of the factions but, it was the wrong one for the project I wanted to do.
Testing it out will probably require another play through.
thing is i cleared absolutely everything in the alpha, only that Drukhari system i just cannot do.
i managed to get some planet to t2 and that's it. without the forge world at t3 and that escort i cant really do that fight.
but like i said, i think it's pretty normal as i have tons of new hardware for the ship but i cant equip it. i even got a Super Lance gun from a t2 upgrade on some colony.
you could technically just grind space battle when you warp ... cross fingers it's a massive nurgle bridge assault to get lot of gear... otherwise it's pretty hard to get enough loot to increase reputations.
anyways... despite that issue with space battle, which obviously will be fixed at some point, game is pretty solid. i had less bug in this game than the first release month for Kingmaker ... so that says something.
I used the plasma torpedoes to blow up two smaller ones early on (on turn 3 with the help of side cannons, and the drukhari ai stayed way too close), and finished the third one before the bigger ones came.
For the bigger drukhari ship, you need to position your ship behind their ship so they can't fire at you. I find that torpedoes are usually the main damage output, but the lance helps too if you decide to outmaneuver them.
Good luck to you!
Also you ship might not be at a high enough level yet, don't face the dark eldar until your ship has at least 300hp, and don't bother with recharging your shields, focus on getting behind them.
The ship increases in level by fighting, so take easy fights first.
i have 360hp on my ship, i dealt with everything else. like i said not exactly a huge deal breaker for now, when you get access to equipping gear you dropped for your ship, they may end up being pretty trivial. they are not when you reach them in the first half of your exploration of the system, at which point your ship barely has more than 200-250hp.
i feel like the correct way to explore the system (according to enemies) would be go up until middle of the map, then go left first, after exploration
get the extra colonies you are able to then do agri Planet > home world > forge world
and after that you are good to go top right part of the map to deal with Drukhari.
