Who is Payday 2's Tony Montana?

So Tony Montana is a complete mess in my eyes. So *Spoilers for Scarface movie* Tony Montana dies at the end of Scarface.

Overkill has stated that the events of the Scarface movie happened but our Tony isn't that Tony Montana. Unless they were referring to the Scarface video game, which they stated is non canon. I really thought that having the video game canon would have made more sense than whatever it is Overkill have done. He manages to escape the attack on his mansion, rebuilds his empire and kicks his cocaine habit. They even use the same voice actor from the video game!

So unless I'm mistaken, the real Tony Montana is dead, and our Tony is a copycat like people have speculated about Jacket.

There is one strange detail as well, when you get into the infamous room where Tony is assassinated, you can see his emblem "TM" on the chain behind the desk. Did Sosa just really like this chair so much that he kept it along with the symbol of his long dead rival? Or is this just because OVK wanted to recreate the mansion from the movie without updating it?

I think the best way they could have done Tony, is to have the movie happen but he is contacted by the Payday Gang/Bain but he's either in retirement at this point or he went into a coma instead of dying. So he either comes out of retirement or a coma to take revenge on the Sosa cartel.

I just feel like the entire lore behind Tony Montana in Payday 2 feels rushed and not well thought out. If someone wants to clear things up for me, please feel free to. I'm just so confused as to how he plays into Payday 2 at all.

One other thought, after the Payday Gang eliminate Sosa, does Tony Montana regain his mansion? Perhaps bribing the cops like Bain does with Safe House Raids?

There is also the possibility that the new Scarface remake by Universal will change things up but only slightly is my guess. Tony would be ancient if it was the real Scarface. I guess the guy was just a big movie fan. Gotta hide your identity somehow eh? But really, Probably a big act played on him either because he himself knows he sucks and wants to be better or he is really playing off the whole "no, I'm Tony" game to hide his identity.

Maybe, but if you watch Scarface he complains about he couldn't have a kid with her because "her womb was so polluted".

With the way Overkill has set it up, that's the only possible excuse I suppose.
Did the math, and Tony would be 70 years old in 2017. He died when he was 37.

He might be able to fit in, I mean we have Jiro who is 52 and Rust who is 61.

I also find it strange that everyone calls him Tony, not Scarface ingame. Yet everwhere he's reffered to as "Scarface". Which by the way, he's only called once in the movie I believe and it's in a foreign language.

He ended up being assassinated by the Sosa Cartel.

Thanks for the FBI files info. So this means that Tony Montana is dead, and there's a guy running around who looks and sound exactly like him? Must have done a lot of surgery to accomplish that.

To summarize, real Tony Montana is dead and we invited a copy cat into the Payday Gang who underwent full reconstructive surgery to become Tony Montana. The Hellmare's theory sounds like it's the official canon, it seems.

Anyone else thinking Overkill didn't plan this one completely but instead thought "Wouldn't it be cool to have Tony Montana as a heister? Yeah, lets see what we can do with that remake coming out!"
And now people want answers so they have to make it up as they go. Not trying to be harsh but it all feels very weak, as far as the lore behind him goes.

Not true. It is confirmed that all events in the movie took place in the Payday universe at the same time as it was done in the movie. Payday 2 lord also CONFIRMS that the real Tony Montana is dead
