What do you think of the Sting grenades?
I'd assume that their biggest utility is for when someone wants to bring a shotgun alongside a different kind of weapon and don't want to deal with the skill point investment that shotguns usually need to be good. I'd assume that that's a rare situation, though, and since it seems to not be shield-piercing, it'll probably only synergize particularly well with weapons that are

I just tried them with the China Puff (which seems to do just enough damage with Sting ammo to kill anything up to tasers and medics with a single headshot). I figured the best weapon I could combine with that would be the Little Friend. Aside from issues that probably relate to the few heists I picked and some mistakes I made while making my build and only fixed afterwards, the main problems were how sluggish it was in general and how poor the ammo economy is

I chatted with another player afterwards. After checking out their stats for the first time, we agreed that Sting grenades seemed like a weak choice, although while I can kinda see some uses for them, he couldn't. Do any of you agree?

Maybe they'll work better with the Arbiter or something. I don't remember the Arbiter's Sting damage value off the top of my head, but I'm pretty sure that on DW, it'll "only" sacrifice one hit kills on tasers and medics

Also, I assume that GLs outfitted with Sting grenades are still unaffected by Berserker and whatever else might normally not affect explosives?

The biggest and only drawback is the terrible pickup it comes with them being locked to GLs.
I think the basilisk is the only GL being able to keep it useful since it has the best pickup rate of the bunch, but you trade the multikill capability that can grant you more ammo boxes than trading a single bullet for another round.
If anything, you get a single shot breaker shotgun lmao

Absolutely pointless from inception, when the only weapon you'd use these with, if you weren't one of the lucky ones to get Scarface Little Friend before deprecation, is the Ketchnov underbarrel to emulate masterkey setup.
Carrying one with an actual GL is far less valuable than packing an actual shotgun.

What they COULD do to alleviate the uselessness however is add a reload and ammo buff to them, seeing that our GL's are limited ot single shot, and low pickup ratios often with excruciatingly slow reloads that are still broken and don't benefit from many reload skills, and all you get in return is a single blast of sugar coated .22lr's that you may even miss with.

Overkill probably just chucked it in as a quota, "Oh wait lets release something for free... uhhh how about this?"

Works with Berserker.

For me, the Sting grenade is a dozer killer weapon. The Compact 40MM at 630 damage, one-headshots exposed Bulldozers on Overkill.
On Mayhem 80% Berserker is enough.
On Mayhem to DS, a crit headshot is enough.
Only exception is Minigun Bulldozer, which will need a combination of damage boosts; crits/Berserker/HVT.

The ammo pickup should be manageable if reserved as an anti-dozer weapon, like the 5/7 used sparingly for shields and the occasional sniper.

It also pierces shields, though I wouldn't use it for that.

Some things I've read after making this thread also suggested that Sting GLs work with shotgun skills after all. I guess that and especially the AP property that I've also heard is there despite my initial beliefs would make them a viable partner for shotguns, too

Crits work with GL's with this thing, thats unexpected and completely ignores the skill description. I guess its not a grenade launcher anymore though
