A forked version of BLT that I've written incorporating new features requested by various mod authors, enabling stuff like using BigLobby or BeardLib editor without the Bundle tool, and adding custom voice lines - a major part of the Crackdown overhaul mod. It's also compatible with Virtual Reality (vanilla BLT isn't) and is available as a WSOCK32.dll instead of IPHLPAPI.dll - fixing an issue a lot of people have had where BLT doesn't work on newer versions of Windows (though only on some computers for whatever reason).
No, you only need SuperBLT if a) regular BLT doesn't work, or b) you're using a mod that uses some of SuperBLT's features, or c) you're using Virtual Reality. There's no harm in using it, though.
Some mods should be put inside mod_overrides, and others should be put inside mods. Open a mod up and see if it has a file called 'mod.txt' - if so, you need to put it in your 'mods' folder. If it doesn't have 'mod.txt', put it in mod_overrides. If it contains'add.xml' then you also need BeardLib installed.
SuperBLT mods have 'mod.txt' and are placed in the mods folder, but also sometimes have a file called 'supermod.xml' in them.
If you're going to install SuperBLT, you'll have to remove regular BLT by deleting IPHLPAPI.dll and the 'base' folder inside your 'mods' folder. If you don't, SuperBLT will tell you what to do to solve it when you start the game.
When you install SuperBLT it replaces the deleted base folder with it's own one.
And don't delete any of your mods or your 'mods' folder, to be clear.
Correct about SuperBLT.
HUDs are generally incompatible, however whether you can run two at once depends on the HUDs. Some combinations will crash, some will probably work together but possibly look odd (eg when using HUDList with another HUD), and a few combinations will probably work fine and look decent (MUI and HUDList probably fall into this category, though I haven't tried it).
MUI is (IIRC) a mod that lets you customize the HUD (though I may be confusing it with something else).
Anyway, if you want to know if two mods work together just try them.
