PAYDAY 2

PAYDAY 2

View Stats:
The Steam downloading folder for Payday 2 is immensely large (for a small update)
This is not an in-game issue, but it does relate to Payday 2; for now I'm just looking for clarification.

The current update (as of 02/01/2014) is reported by Steam to be 183 MB, however, the downloading folder for Payday 2 totals at 9,94 GB.

The folder in question is: steamapps\downloading\218620
(218620 being the Steam Application ID for Payday 2).

[Update (old post continues in the bottom)]:
After the unpacking, the files have been removed as they should be. But for what possible reason should a 183 MB patch take up almost 10 GB of temporary space?

Continued old post:
My question is, does Payday 2 store some files, that are in use, in this folder, or are these files remnants of previous updates? Steam reports Payday 2 to use 15,9 GB of space which is accurate when counting the steamapps\common\PAYDAY 2 folder, but obviously wrong when counting the unreasonably large \downloading folder.

My game is unmodded. I am using Windows 7.

That sort of thing isn't really accurate. I once checked the downloads folder while downloading a CS:GO update and it said it was over 100gb. Needless to say this wasn't true. I wouldn't worry about it.
However, this means that Windows is allocating a very large amount of space. This is a potential problem since Steam will refuse to download any further once the disk is reported (even if this is false) to be full. In your case, you would need +100 GB of free space to download that update.

No, it actually isn't. I only had about 90gb of space when that happened.
I am experiencing it right now that exact problem right now.

Anyway, I've also found other games that have left what appears to be remnants in the \downloading folder. I'll try to remove them, launch a relevant game and see what happens. Will update this post... Seems like a Steam issue then.

Update: Tried with Medieval 2: Total War, which has a \downloading folder at 2,75 GB. Removed it, launched the game and fought a battle with no noticeable problems.

Probably an issue with Steam leaving remnants of update files.
