Here are some things you can try, stick to this order.
Either reinstall your driver, install the newest version, or revert to a previous one.
Nvidia: http://www.geforce.com/drivers
Try starting Payday 2 after the installation is complete.
- Rightclick your desktop
- Open Nvidia Control Panel
- Under: 3D Settings -> Manage 3D settings -> Program Settings
- Select: Payday 2 (payday2_win32_release.exe) from the dropdown menu
- Under: Preferred graphics processor:
- Select: High-performance NVIDIA processor
- Save changes and try starting Payday 2 again
- Make sure your system shows hidden files and folders.
- Go to this folder(default location): C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\PAYDAY 2
- Rightclick the file "renderer_settings.xml", click "Properties" and make sure the file is NOT set to Read-Only. Click "OK".
- Now open the file "renderer_settings.xml" with a text-editor.
- Look for "resolution" , "refresh-rate" and "aspect-ratio" and make sure these values match your monitor's native settings.
For example, I have a 16:9 monitor running in 1920x1080 @ 60Hz, so my values look like this:
To get the right value for your aspect-ratio, simple divide your resolution's width by the height. In this example 1920/1080=1.77778 (round to five decimal places).
After this save & exit the file and try to start Payday 2.
If it still crashes on start-up, try deleting "renderer_settings.xml" and try to start Payday 2 again(make a back-up just in case). The game will generate a new file on start-up.
For some people using laptops with the switchable graphics option, the usual fixes aren't working since the last update(editing or removing renderer_settings.xml). I have another workaround which seems to be working for some people.
Go to your renderer_settings.xml and look for your display adapter. You can find it here by default: C:\Users\"UserName"\AppData\Local\PAYDAY 2
If it says "Intel" like this:
try the next few steps:
- Click start on your task-bar, Control Panel, Display, Adjust Resolution, Advanced settings
- Under the Adapter tab, look for Adapter Type, and copy it. It has to be EXACTLY the same.
For example mine says NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 so I will use that.
- Go to your renderer_settings.xml again and replace the Intel adapter like this:
replace with
(insert you own Gpu ofcourse)
Change this one as well:
replace with
- Save and exit the file and start Payday 2 again.
Good luck!
Thanks
